Unnecessary Processes and Services

my idea it's to create a thread to remember which unnecessary processes with no utility to common users can be killed. they only take system resources and are useless. feel free to add the one you know to the list, ask what they do or how they can be killed.

for example:

I use msconfig.exe to stop startup applications or use Startup.cpl.

System Processes

MDM.exe (Machine Debug Manager)

ctfmon.exe (Relative to Office language bar)

Startup Programs

atiptaxx.exe (Ati PTA utility)

NeroCheck.exe (Nero Filter Check)

Annoying Tray Icons

CloneCDTray.exe (CloneCD icon on the taskbar)

qttask.exe (Quick Time tray)

Useless Services

Ati2evxx.exe (ATI Hotkey Poller)

CTsvcCDA.exe (Creative Service for CDROM Access)

also.. just 2 note: the ctfmon.exe is needed if u have a tablet PC

& on blackviper's site, it says u can disable autoupdates & bits service.. (these are both needed for sp2's updates on winupdate.com so be careful b4 doing so if u are planning 2 use sp2)

regards

Are you using DesktopX? I think that file is a part of that installation.

CompanyName : Stardock

FileDescription : MCPServer

InternalName : MCP

OriginalFilename : SDMCP.exe

ProductName : Stardock MCP Core Services (System Extensions and Hooks)

Are you having a problem with it?

@jrzycrim thanks for reply. i'm sure this file it's part of stardock plus! program. in it's description "MCPServer". i don't like things that got in their names "Server" and specially if i do not know what the hell it does. i'm not having any problem with it but i hate loss 3mb of system resources if i don't know it.

tip: probably it's got together with the weather objectdock plugin.
