do u mean via reg file?

if so..

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\wpa\CXGDDGP2B2RKWWDHG3HYVDJ7J]

that will work, if its a key & the key name is in the aforementioned path

that's it!

i can't delete them. their contents contain ProductID and DigitalProductID and all the contents of the three keys are the same with this one:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA\Key-G4XTBRDJMGP7G4WJTJK48

being the intrinsic, those different were added by myself!

i wanted to delete the unwanted ones!

that's my intention!

one more question:

i was trying to install printer hp3500 series, but the system couldn't be able to complete the installation. moreover,i found in "device maneger" "PnP BIOs extension" was disabled and tried to reinstall it, but failed given the message:the file was damaged!

before doing this i'd completely removed Daemon tools from the pc.

is PnP BIOs extension related to the incapability to install a printer?

thanks!

i dont think so

about your original problem, try deleting the file in safe mode or maybe booting 2 a 98floppy disk 2 go 2 command prompt

:)

thanksf for all your kind help!

question 1:

i have a bootable 98 cd-rom and xp pro cd-rom as well.

yet i'm a green hand and don't know how to edit the registry file in DOS command mode. anyway i'd like to ask how to use ghost.exe to back up the system!

question 2:

before doing any of this i've downloaded separately xp patches and sp1 to the hard drive used only for backing up files.

if i restore to reinstalling xp,will these patches and sp1 be smoothly merged into xp if i chose to install them?

it took me about 20 hours to update online the xp and i wish it won't come to a reinstallation of xp!

now it's about 10pm in china and in case of re-installation i would have to plough through again the sufferings!

question 1:

as rzycrim said, XP's recovery console would be better, http://theeldergeek.com should have stuff on that

Also.. look on microsoft's site 2 see info on REG DELETE

question 2:

patches will apply even smoother 2 a clean freshly formatted OS that ISNT an upgrade, u could download autopatcher , all u need is sp1 http://autopatcher.com it has all windows updates in 1, & it will allow u 2 select components 2 install

hope it helps :)

i'd search for information on how to edit registry file in Dos command mode and then decide whether a reinstallation of xp is necessary!

thanks again for your help!

i had tried to use 98bootable cd to run Dos and tried this:

a:\> c: -> c:\ -> c:\>regedit

but failed to run regedit.exe!

also i tried to use UltraEdit to edit the registry again but it could not fully import the editted corresponding key \wpa into the existing registry.

wil it be possilbe to succeed thus:

1.edit the registry with UltraEdit

2. save the editted registry into a specified directory

3.plunge into Dos command prompt by using 98bootalbe cd

4.replace the old one with this new registry

the key step is 4, please help me again!

i've tried this :

all 10 stpes are devided into:

a: pure dos mode

1. boot from cd-rom and run command prompt from 98bootable cd

b: dos via xp

2. access into directory c:\windows\system\config

3. run command:copy SYSTEM h:\

4. reboot from hdd-0

5. access into command prompt, run command:

reg load HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\sys h:\SYSTEM

6.acess into registry and edit/delete the unwanted keys

7.shut down regedit.exe

9.into command prompt,run command:

reg unload HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\sys

10. run command: replace h:\SYSTEM C:\windows\system32\conifg

but was choked by this: i'd tried 10 in three ways and

got

1) in xp Normal mode and safe mode:

extended error 32

2) in command prompt from 98bootable cd:

bad command or file name

wish further help could be granted!

thanks a lot!
