I'm installing DirectX 9.0b during the svcpack.inf portion of the Win XP install and have run into a problem with the Windows Critical Update KB839643 (DirectX 9.0 Security Update). I receive the error:

"Setup cannot continue because one or more pre-requisites required to install KB839643 failed. For More details check the Log File C:\WINDOWS\KB839643.log"

The log file reads:

I'm installing the patch in the RunOnce portion of the install along with other hotfixes that won't process in the svcpack.inf portion. Attempts to install the update via Windows Update gives me a "Failed to update and must close Windows Update" error window, which details lead me to believe that I have the incorrect version of "update.exe" or something?

Anyone else run into this problem? Any ideas for a fix? Any help would be appreciated.

You have the express installer, not the full one. Refer to the Hotfixes thread, and get it through the link there (make sure for the correct version of DX that you're installing)
