hansen_dk Posted July 14, 2004 Posted July 14, 2004 Hey guys.I'm not much of a gamer, so I dont really know how to fix any game-related problems I've just installed a new game on my pc. And in the menus and such, my mouse works fine (in windows too). But as soon as I start the game my mouse starts "lagging", like it's ½ a second behind or something like that. I tried installing serveral different titles now, and the problems persists in all of them.Someone please help me Thanks in advanceHenrik HansenDenmark
TomcaT Posted July 14, 2004 Posted July 14, 2004 It is probably that you have the video settings too high, thus making the game movement via the mouse slower, you could try lowering the video settings and also look to see if there are any in-game mouse settings that could be changed. What game is it? What spec PC do you have?
hansen_dk Posted July 14, 2004 Author Posted July 14, 2004 Well, I've tried serveral games. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell, John Deere American Farmer, Half-Life, just to mention some.My current pc specs are:Intel Pentium 4 2800 Mhz (800 Mhz fsb, 1 MB L2 Cache)Asus P4P800-SE MotherboardSamsung PC3200 DDR (Dual Channel)Soltek GeForce 4 MX 440 64MBMicrosoft Intellimouse Explorer 4.0 (With tilt wheel)thats the relevant specs I guess..My in-game settings are only 800x600, should be no problem for this card, with detail level at a minimum?!
XtremeMaC Posted July 14, 2004 Posted July 14, 2004 well as much as u say it is not graphics card related it kind of is erm its not up to me but for a comp like that why not get a better graphics card?also u can try defragging.. maybe a better mouse pad?wait is it cordless? if so its pretty normal...
JupiterSSJ4 Posted July 14, 2004 Posted July 14, 2004 yah, that video card is horrible, I beleive that when benchmarked, it gets around what a geforce 2 gets. I have a really high end geforce 4 ti4200 (albatron ti4200p turbo) and nowadays, todays game's kick its butt. I have to run games like Unreal 2004 in very low res with most of the settings on pretty low. You definatley need to get a better card, an ati 9600 pro is very cheap and very very good.
hansen_dk Posted July 14, 2004 Author Posted July 14, 2004 oke, so I went through my stack of hardware and found another graphics card. It's an ASUS GeForce FX 5200 128 MB DDR, and dont ask me why I did'nt use this from the start! However, the problem seems solved or atleast much much out-bettered. But the mouse still aint floating like I want it too.I remember back in days, when Counterstrike beta's very brand new, I used to have the same problem, and some gamerfriend of mine would change some settings with my videocard to make it work. That was a Riva TNT2.
TomcaT Posted July 15, 2004 Posted July 15, 2004 Glad to hear you have used a better graphics card you will find the game much better for it.I also suggest that you get an optical mouse, the ball ones collect dirt and this is deposited as black goo on the rollers inside which affects the smoothness of the mouse movement, you could always clean it inside by scraping this away (gently of course), if you do this little maintenance task each week it will keep your mouse sweet. As for setting the game up for the mouse, look for a menu called Input or Control etc, there should be some settings that reduce mouse lag, set sensitivity for the game etc..... I play America's Army alot and it has these settings in there.Hope this helps.
hansen_dk Posted July 15, 2004 Author Posted July 15, 2004 Hey Tomcat. Thanks for the advice, but I already did these things, you can also feel that it ain't a "game-settings" related problem. It feels like Directdraw/Direct3D/whatever is f***ing it up somehow :xAnd my mouse is a Microsoft Intelli Explorer 4.0 Optical.
