mobetter4u Posted July 15, 2002 Posted July 15, 2002 Desperate!!! When booting up the computer freezes in the booting sequence (Black Windows logo on the screen). When I try to boot up in safe mode, I was able to do a scan disk on both hard drives (there were no errors) before it froze up again. I continue to boot it up in safe mode and some times I get through only to have it refreeze after a few minutes and sometimes its locks up in the boot sequence. Incidently I did do a system roll back to a date I know is good. Did not help at all. Any suggestions, please help!!!
FthrJACK Posted July 15, 2002 Posted July 15, 2002 i take it you have been running XP for a while then?it could be a graphics driver, or even graphics card failure by the sound of it if you have your graphics driver on Cd try boot and install it, or try run repair from the windows consolefailing that, have you tried formatting it?sorry for being vague but i dont know if your system was working with XP prior to the mess up, or what you did before you last rebooted that might have caused this. let us know and maybe theres a clue in there...
zipp51 Posted July 15, 2002 Posted July 15, 2002 Hi Mo,While in safe mode, try this; put your Windows XP cd in the tray and load. Then go to start/run then type in "SFC /scannow"(without quotes).Make sure you put a space after SFC.This should repair any corrupt startup files you may have.Hopefully it will work from safe mode..........Zipp
Aaron Posted July 15, 2002 Posted July 15, 2002 mobetter4u - Have you looked in Event Viewer to check for any errors or warnings its logged? It can be handy to find out what's causing it.If you manage to go into Safe Mode again, go to control panel > admin tools > event viewer > system
