JOHN_QUE_PUBLIC Posted June 23, 2004 Posted June 23, 2004 (edited) Hello:I keep getting an incorrect function error that points to the \I386\asm directory and then WINXP SP1 setup craps out(t-39). I have burned this as an ISO with NERO and made sure that the proper settings were used. What should I check? Edited June 23, 2004 by JOHN_QUE_PUBLIC
Alanoll Posted June 23, 2004 Posted June 23, 2004 please oh please search....and more specificaly, search for the right word.it's ASMS Error. And it's usually caused by a bad burn, or the ISO that was created had a problem. It happens. Use a CDRW.
JOHN_QUE_PUBLIC Posted June 23, 2004 Author Posted June 23, 2004 <sigh>Dude, I did search. All "incorrect function asm" got me was some thread that never got resolved one way or another. So did you have anything constructive to suggest ? Or are you trolling here?
Alanoll Posted June 23, 2004 Posted June 23, 2004 dude, I'm a MOD. So in part yes and no.And as for a resolution, I told you the only resolution that I have seen...it's ASMS Error. And it's usually caused by a bad burn, or the ISO that was created had a problem. It happens. Use a CDRW.as more negative answer, somehow your files got corrupted. Also, the file format of the disc might also have something to do with it, as it comes close to exceeding ISO-9660 specs. CDIMAGE might create the image wrong on times. Try without the -o or any optomization switches.
GreenMachine Posted June 23, 2004 Posted June 23, 2004 As Alanoll suggests, the problem is most likely in the burn or ISO. Troubleshooting would include testing the ISO in VPC/VMWare, using a tool such as CDCHECK, trying different hardware, or a simple re-run. These problems are rarely XPCREATE specific.Welcome to MSFN, JOHN_QUE_PUBLIC!
JOHN_QUE_PUBLIC Posted June 23, 2004 Author Posted June 23, 2004 OK, I will doublcheck the setup, I was able to resume setup by inserting the original CD and continueing on from there. I had to leave for work so I do not know if it went all the way through setup (But it was getting close when I left).I don't know what implications will be when I check it out as the install was giving me a lot of "unsigned drivers" prompts when it was setting up.Sorry if I seemed crabby, but it had been a long day.
GreenMachine Posted June 23, 2004 Posted June 23, 2004 If you used a combination of XPCREATE CD and Original CD, I would strongly recomment NOT using that installation for more than testing. It is to silly to already be at an unknown state upon initial installation. Multiple errors like that are almost always a fluke: One corrupted hotfix, a bad sector, a hiccup somewhere. Something silly.
JOHN_QUE_PUBLIC Posted June 23, 2004 Author Posted June 23, 2004 Yes, that is a test box, so no great loss if I nuke it. Should I just start over and re-download everything and start with another empty directory?
GreenMachine Posted June 23, 2004 Posted June 23, 2004 If you have a good connection, I would start the whole thing again. Like I said, it is probably something quite silly (could also be in YOUR files, if you have a WINNT.SIF or something). If your connection is good, and you have enought time, let it run on it's own. As it could be anything, it'll probably be quicker in the long run. Still, there is the possibility that I'm wrong, and it happens again ... I'm just basing this on experience.
Nos4ah2 Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 Here ya go. This resolved the problem when I had it a long time ago.http://www.lecour.net/richard/archives/000050.htmlI also found a few times that if I blow out the installation partition and recreate it during the install that this seemed to help as well. Cheers!
GreenMachine Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 Welcome to MSFN, Nos4ah2, and thanks for the link. Kind of like looking for a needle in a haystack: I'm not very good at long articles!Generaly, these errors are related to hardware or media in one way or another, so I "wait and see". XPCREATE is not the cause ...
