Ok guys I search around before I posted this one. So hopefully you dont chew me out..

What I would like to accomplish is to have one set of setup files for WinXP Pro

but have the ability to load any of the following versions

OEM

Retail

Volume

I know that I can copy the setup files into different folders and create a multiboot from there. But am trying to conserve space on a cd.

I also know that

OEM

Retail

Volume

Use the same files the only thing that changes them is the setupp.ini

So I want to know is there any way that I can use the same setup files but use a different Setupp.ini

I am aware that I would need different keys for the different versions..

From reading the multiboot guide I got a few I ideas. But I was thinking maybe this is a maybe

that the txtsetup.sif can be changed to read different setupp.ini..

Then from there I can modify setupldr.bin to read different txtsetup.sif that would inturn read different setupp.ini

I think you will need different folders to do this.

In fact, the "trick" is that you have only one set of setup files (except setupp.ini and may be some other) in one folder, but the will be "mirrored" (hardlinked) to the other directories. Therefore you need no more space but have shown the files multiple times in the directory structure.

The cdimage ISO creator from MS does this automatically if you add specific switches. With mkisofs you can work with NTFS hardlinks.

The spcific switch for cdimage being -o, in case anybody was wondering

There no easy way to convert an upgrade version to a full version but what I did on my Multi boot creation for ME upgrade was to include the 98se cab file on the disc along with the full version of win98se & other os. You simply point ME to this file in setup. Maybe someone else here would have an easier way?

for info on the possible switches for cdimage, just open a command prompt an type cdimage without switches, statements etc. You'll get a list of all possible switches.

Most commonly used are -l -h -n -m -o -b and -d. If you're lazy or a lousy typist you can use the gui version of cdimage, aptly named *drumroll* ... cdimagegui. A google serach should let you find it, else click here.

Actually, if you want to save a little more space and you don't mind waiting, I think that

-oc

is the better switch, it uses binary comparison rather than MD5.

I tried the -o I put the setupp.ini the three different versions in a folder of there own. But I have no clue how to call the different ones

I want to modify the line

setupp.ini = 100,,,,,,_x,,3,3

to

setupp1.ini = 100,,,,,,_x,,3,3

am able to modify and save the line but when I reiso and vmware the ISO

I get the following please see attached file

Can someone please explain 100,,,,,,_x,,3,3 ?
