Jenay Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 I'm running XPCreate on a Dell Optiplex 240 on XP Pro,My Source CD is an XPPro OEM, just out of the package, that seems to be already slipstreemed with SP1a, (and yes it will boot to the Windows setup) but when I run XPCreate I get the error -- 9:30:59 --> Looking for CD Source.-- 9:30:59 --> Trying to extract the Boot Image.-- 9:30:59 --> Source does not appear to be a CD. Error: Cannot find BOOTIMG file. Value: BOOT\XPCTBOOT.BIN Press Enter to Exit.is there a way I can bybass the bootimage process? Because I've slipstreamed SP1a in the past, and still have the 'Microsoft Corperation.img' boot file that I can use with NERO to burn a bootable XP CD.any suggestions?
GreenMachine Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 Put a boot image file named XPCTBOOT.BIN in the BOOT directory, that will overcome the problem. However, the real question is why it could not extract your boot image. The answer to that mystery is probably buried deep inside the LOGFILES.CAB log archive ...
Jenay Posted June 10, 2004 Author Posted June 10, 2004 WORKAROUNDWent to a command prompt and to my XPCreate Directory and typed:BBIE d: and them I got a image1.binI then renamed that and put it in the correct place and now it works...
GreenMachine Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 That'll do ... I'm more interested in resolving the problem, not the symptom ... for that. I'll need the log files ...I forgot ... Welcome to MSFN!
Jenay Posted June 10, 2004 Author Posted June 10, 2004 Okay as soon as I thru excuition of XPCREATE, I will recreate the error, and post the Logs...
Jenay Posted June 10, 2004 Author Posted June 10, 2004 I cannot find the file:LOGFILES.CAB do I need to turn loggin on?the xpcreate.log is as follows:---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11:55:14 -- Started at: 11:55:14 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 11:55:14 -- XPCREATE Version : 10 JUN 2004 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 11:55:14 -- Running on : --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11:55:15 -- Setting Variables --------------------------------------------------------------------------------@ECHO OFF SET CDERASE=NOSET CDLABEL=XPCREATESET CDSPEED=24SET COPYSOURCE=YESSET DELISOS=NOSET DELROOT=NOSET DELTEMP=NOSET DLAUTO=YESSET DLURL=http://xpcreate.wiretapped.us/HFLISTSSET DOCABS=YESSET DOCD=NOSET DOISO=YESSET DOPATH=YESSET DOSATA=YESSET DOSVCPACK=YESSET DRIVERDIR=$OEM$\$1\DRIVERSSET EXITQUIET=NOSET OVERWRITEOEM=YESSET SILENTINSTALL=YESSET SLIPHF1=YESSET SLIPHF2=YESSET SLIPMDC=YESSET SLIPSPK=YESSET XPISO=XPCREATE.ISOSET XPSOURCE=D:\---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11:55:15 -- Looking for CD Source. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 11:55:15 -- Trying to extract the Boot Image. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 11:55:15 -- Source does not appear to be a CD. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------****************************************Also I've changed the SET XPSOURCE=D:\to SET XPSOURCE=D:in the .INI file but it did the same thing.
GreenMachine Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 If you could try again, install in a clean directory, and don't change XPCREATE.INI, it would help me track it down. XPCREATE should be able to initialize everything correctly.LOGFILES.CAB is in the directory NEWFILES, after successfull completion.
Jenay Posted June 10, 2004 Author Posted June 10, 2004 ahh... I'm retarded...as long as SET XPSOURCE=is blank it works fine, if I the drive letter, it then assumes it's not from a CD and won't extract the XPCTBOOT.bin file, then errors out because it cannot find that file.(Which IMO it shouldn't look for if:DOCD=NODOISO=NO)Thanks for the great Product tho.
GreenMachine Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 ... (Which IMO it shouldn't look for if:DOCD=NODOISO=NO) ...You know, that's the real reward here. I write the code, I decide the rules!I kind of suspected something like that. I'll look into it for a future release. But beware, those are few and far between! The bottom line is that writing productive code is interesting, but writing error checking code is ... boring ... just a bit less boring than troubleshooting. So, thanks for narrowing it down with me, and next time I pass by that code, I'll keep this in mind.
bluebeard Posted June 29, 2004 Posted June 29, 2004 I am having the same problem, after upgrading xpcreate, the bin file is in the boot folder but xpcreate is unable to read it.Also I have reinstaled to a new destination, it copies the xp cd but then fails to be able to read the bin file, in the new boot folder. Is there a fix for this??Do I have to alter the ini file???
GreenMachine Posted June 29, 2004 Posted June 29, 2004 Run a clean install of XPCREATE first, it should find everything, copy what it needs, etc. Then merge your old stuff into that. I know ... a workaround, but a workable one at least!
bluebeard Posted June 29, 2004 Posted June 29, 2004 Doesn't the instalation into a new directory count as a new instal????Have copied the service pack and hotfixes over but on the new instal xpcreate copies the cd to cd source(new folder), then comes up with the cannot read the bootimg.bin??so getting nowhere fast?Any ideas and thanks for your reply.
bluebeard Posted June 29, 2004 Posted June 29, 2004 ok, if I rename the bootimg.bin(boot folder) to xpctboot.bin it seems to work now, will post later if it doesn't workthanks again
GreenMachine Posted June 29, 2004 Posted June 29, 2004 I guess that'll do it, as well! I'm going to have to re-think this part ...
