Unattended re-install saving current structure

Hi,

I've been reading and working on my unattended install for a few weeks now, so far I'm doing quite well.

There are a few things that really irritate me though, they seem all to be related to me wanting to have my documents and settings on the D drive. Why would I want this? Simply because it takes less time to re-install my computer if I keep everything on the D drive, I just format C, re-install.. et voila! .. Or so I thought.

First thing is: when I install unattended, with the existing D drive and path settings in place, it creates new profile directories (D:\Documents and Settings\[username].[Computername]).

But I don't want it to, because all my stuff is already in the normal D:\Documents and Settings\[username] directory. I don't want to copy my Favorites, Desktop, My Documents, Local Settings and so on.. It wouldn't work any way because I am not allowed access to some of these files because they were created by another administrator.

Is there any way to force the install to NOT create a new user directory and just use my old dir, leaving my old files intact?

The best option might be to use the user state migration tool. This is scriptable and you can use it to export then import your user settings. There are other options but the other options might cause data loss.

I suspected something like that, I think I'll do some batch files processing for the most important things like favourites and such.

The migration tool sometimes migrates too much, I want to be able to choose.
