How the hell do I get XYZDOMAIN.com to point to my IP address? My current registrar keeps giving me half-assed solutions, most of which are just different ways of redirecting.

Example:

ping www.chaosratt.com and you get my site, comfortably hosted at eMax.

ping www.computingzone.net and you get some BS computer that redirects to my ip.

Sounds Like the host header solution provided by IIS. One IP, many websites.. only the defaulted website gets resolved by IP.

Both domains are registered to the same person. Both sites are hosted on the same server. You are sharing an IP with more than one domain. Thats why both sites point to the same IP. The redirect no longer occurs, so you must have fixed it or it took some time proprogate (24 to 72 hours).

Don't worry. Your in good hands with eMax. :)

No i got tired of screwing around with it so I stuck it back on my eMax server, too much hassle and bandwidth problems to warrent using my computer as a server.

Chaosratt - You should be able to edit the DNS and make a DNS entry and point those (A record and MX record) to your home IP.

The any pinging should go right to the registrar, then resolve to your house server.

Is that not happening?

wow, forgot about this thread.

Dont know, and dont care anymore.

In answer, no it was not working properly. Pinging the domain did not resolve out to my IP address, it came to my registrar's address. I understand why it was so cheep now, something I will consider when its time to renew the domain....
