mrhappatai21
Say I make my own game using a simple computer program. What do I need to do to this game to make it playable as a handheld?Do I need to transfer the executable data into a microchip or what?
Datalore
Unless you have your own chip fabrication plant, and a huge sum of cash, making your own handheld game is going to be extremely hard. There are alternatives, however:If the game is simple enough (pong, breakout, etc), you know Assembly, and you know what you're doing with electronics, then you can probably build a handheld out of RadioShack parts. You'll need to purchase an LCD from a place like US Micro. However doing the above is still extremely complex. Another alternative:Build the game for a well known handheld, such as the Gameboy Advance. You'll need a few game building tools which you can find at Devrs.com. You'll also need a way to transfer the games to the Gameboy, which you can buy at Lik-sang.comThere is an inherent problem though, you can't code the game in just any language- it has to be more or less specific to the console you're making it for. If you made the game using a "Simple computer program" then it most likely is not compatable with handheld machines in general because of the differences in compiled executable code.Don't let this discourage you, it is possible, just not easy. If you have any more questions, don't be afraid to ask!
