BobSundquist Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 I recently bought a new computer and want to share files between it and my Windows 8 computer so I did the following: Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center | Change advanced sharing settings | Turn on file and printer sharing | Save changes When I come back to "Change advanced sharing settings" file and printer sharing is still turned off. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Tripredacus Posted June 14, 2024 Posted June 14, 2024 If I'm not mistaken, I believe that may be a legacy option relating to SMB which has been disabled due to security reasons. Setting up share permissions between computers is trivial and doesn't use that option. You can post which edition of Windows 8 you have and also what OS is on your new computer and someone should be able to answer.
BobSundquist Posted June 14, 2024 Author Posted June 14, 2024 Thank you for your response. I am running Windows 8 Version 6.2 (Build 9200). The new computer is Windows 11. On the Windows 8 computer, for the C: drive properties I enabled Sharing and gave the C: drive a sharing name. On the Windows 11 computer, when I try to map a drive to the share name, I get a message, "Windows cannot access...". If I try to map a drive by browsing, I get a window that says "Network" with nothing in it. Both computers are connected to a common router, which is used to access internet.
