Windows 7 Explorer status bar summary of more than 16 files

After switching from XP to Windows 7, I found one new feature annoying. Im quite often dealing with large amount of files. It is very convenient for me to see the summary on the disk space used, when selecting large amount of files using just the keyboad. The problem is, if the amout is 16 or more, the summary gets disabled. I have to click "show more information"(translated from Polish) to get the status bar to show the count, but the focus from keyboard selecting is lost, at that moment. Adding another file to the selection disables the status bar, again.

Is there a way to disable this feature? Back in the Windows XP, I was able to select as many files as I wanted and the summary was always visible, without having to click anything.
