hello,

Well, i've been very busy with the preparation of an unattended install via a network....

so far i've gotten:

\ a bootdisk

* recieves an IP-adres via DHCP

* Maps a drive K: to SRV\windist

* Executes k:\i386\winnt.exe /u:k:\i386\winnt.sif /s:k:\i386

this install is done on a pentium 350Mhz machine with 128 megs of ram and a 4GB fat32 partition...

Finally i've gotten the install to start, what happens now, it loads all the files etc. and then comes the screen, "copying files to hard drive"(bad translation?), in which it seems to hang itself up, it's like there's no activity anymore...

What do i need to do, to keep it going

edit: i forgot to mention that i stated a convert to NTFS in the answer file, could it be that it is performing the conversion???

edit2: well after 20 minutes it still doesn't do anything, i hit the num-lock does respond, i don't have a clue what is causing this, it's really frustrating though, 1st i had the problem that the share wasn't accessible, then i had the problem that there wasn't an active partition that couldn't be reached and then i had the problem that there wasn't enough memory to run winnt.exe... now i run into the "it stops during the"copy process"...

haha, the question is, what is your contribution of any worth to me...

i've been fiddling about this problem for a week now, and i'm tiring, i will not give (de aanhouder wint om het maar even te verduidelijken)...

i want to solve this problem, the only matter that i'm concernd of is that after this problem there will be another and another, and i'm getting tired of it...

The system stops the install for no reason, at least no reason which i could think of, perhaps any of you guys knows why?

well. enuffsaid... :):rolleyes:

Should i open a new topic, thus making this board more cluttered or is there any adm who whishes to correct my stupidity...

Anyway, this board is really great, am learning a lot of it, and it would be stupid to be not keeping in touch with the rules ain't it...

yup,

it doesn't make the t-13 stage...

After execution of winnt.exe u get 1 blue screen, in which is stated that setup is copying files, after that the copying files dialog doesn't disapear and it seems as if setup becomes inactive, perhaps it's the 10mbit ethernet connection, i'm going to try it on a 100mbit connection, if it works than i've been given my answer!

for anybody who has had interest in this topic, the answer is very simple...

Use smartdrive and the

/u:k:\i386\winnt.sif /s:k:\i386 /noreboot /makesourcelocal

switches to start winnt.exe

this will greatly improve performance and cut your install-time literaly in half
