Shannon Posted April 14, 2004 Posted April 14, 2004 I did search and come across numerous results. I copy and pasted into a reg file and merged it into the registry, but the effects are still checked - even after a reboot. What am I doing wrong?Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects]"VisualFXSetting"=dword:00000003 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\AnimateMinMax]"DefaultApplied"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\ComboBoxAnimation]"DefaultApplied"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\CursorShadow]"DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\DragFullWindows]"DefaultApplied"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\DropShadow]"DefaultValue"=dword:00000001"DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\FontSmoothing]"DefaultValue"=dword:00000001"DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\ListBoxSmoothScrolling]"DefaultApplied"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\ListviewAlphaSelect]"DefaultValue"=dword:00000001"DefaultApplied"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\ListviewShadow]"DefaultValue"=dword:00000001"DefaultApplied"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\ListviewWatermark]"DefaultValue"=dword:00000001"DefaultApplied"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\MenuAnimation]"DefaultValue"=dword:00000001"DefaultApplied"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\SelectionFade]"DefaultValue"=dword:00000001"DefaultApplied"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\TaskbarAnimations]"DefaultValue"=dword:00000001"DefaultApplied"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\Themes] [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\TooltipAnimation]"DefaultValue"=dword:00000001"DefaultApplied"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\WebView]"DefaultApplied"=dword:00000000BTW - this is my first post on MSFN.
XtremeMaC Posted April 14, 2004 Posted April 14, 2004 where are u parsing this registry file?these are current user values so u have to parse them when the user u want to apply these tweaks to, enters.also the post count is shown under your name
gosh Posted April 14, 2004 Posted April 14, 2004 Pretty name, Shannon. You'll really get hit or miss results with the visual effects tweaks. The problem is the visual effects settings are applied at logon, and if you apply a reghack the registry is changed but the GUI won't reflect the changes. I would recommend using sysprep to customize the visual effects. Last i looked, Microsoft doesn't support any other way to change the visual effects, but some people on this forum have had some luck.-gosh
XtremeMaC Posted April 14, 2004 Posted April 14, 2004 judging by the name u're a girl right yes also as gosh mentioned the inf method while back u can modify the hive*.inf files and put these in there i believe.i haven't tried it with visual stuff but other stuff works just perfect.refer to gosh's site for more info on inf's. it might seem hard but it really is not..good luck.
