.:]UtoPisT[:. Posted April 3, 2004 Posted April 3, 2004 Hi,Since I'm currently busy making my first Automated windowsXP DVD and I also don't want to install unessesairy stuff (like MSN and games and what not). So I looked at the Components list in the [Components] list section of the tutorial. But i can figure some out, but there are a lot of wich i don't know waht they mean, or wether it's possible (or advisible) to turn em off. Here is a list of components; The blue ones are components where i'm just guessing what they mean, or what someone told me they believed it was. The red ones are Components where i'm pretty sure about the meaning, and probably will turn off during install. The green color means that i'm probably going to turn these components off during the install If some of them aren't advisivble to turn off, please do tell.[Components]AccessOpt = On Accessibility Wizard?Appsrv_console = OnAspnet = OnAutoUpdate = Off Seems Obvious...BitsServerExtensionsISAPI = OnBitsServerExtensionsManager = OnCalc = On Calculator.exe Certsrv = OnCertsrv_client = OnCertsrv_server = OnCharmap = OnChat = OnClipbook = OnComplusnetwork = OnDeskpaper = OnDialer = On Network Diallers???Dtcnetwork = OnFax = OnFp_extensions = OnFp_vdir_deploy = OnFreecell = Off Game -> ObsoleteHearts = Off Game -> ObsoleteHypertrm = OnIEAccess = OnIis_asp = Off Microsoft's Internet Information Server stuffIis_common = Off Microsoft's Internet Information Server stuffIisdbg = Off Microsoft's Internet Information Server stuffIis_ftp = Off Microsoft's Internet Information Server stuffIis_htmla = Off Microsoft's Internet Information Server stuffIis_doc = Off Microsoft's Internet Information Server stuffIis_inetmgr = Off Microsoft's Internet Information Server stuffIis_internetdataconnector = Off Microsoft's Internet Information Server stuffIis_nntp = Off Microsoft's Internet Information Server stuffIis_pwmgr = Off Microsoft's Internet Information Server stuffIis_serversideincludes = Off Microsoft's Internet Information Server stuffIis_smtp = Off Microsoft's Internet Information Server stuffIis_smtp_docs = Off Microsoft's Internet Information Server stuffIis_webadmin = Off Microsoft's Internet Information Server stuffIis_webdav = Off Microsoft's Internet Information Server stuffIis_www = Off Microsoft's Internet Information Server stuffIis_www_vdir_printers = Off Microsoft's Internet Information Server stuffIis_www_vdir_scripts = Off Microsoft's Internet Information Server stuffIis_www_vdir_terminalservices = Off Microsoft's Internet Information Server stuffIndexsrv_system = OnInetprint = OnLicenseserver = OnMedia_clips = OnMedia_utopia = OnMinesweeper = Off Game -> ObsoleteMousepoint = On Msmq_ADIntegrated = OnMsmq_Core = OnMsmq_HTTPSupport = OnMsmq_LocalStorage = OnMsmq_MQDSService = OnMsmq_RoutingSupport = OnMsmq_TriggersService = OnMsnexplr = Off MSN ExplorerMswordpad = Off WordpadNetcis = OnNetoc = OnObjectpkg = OnOEAccess = On Outlook Express?Paint = Off Paint :/Pinball = Off Game -> ObsoletePop3Admin = OnPop3Service = OnPop3Srv = OnRec = OnReminst = OnRootautoupdate = Off AutoupdateRstorage = OnSolitaire = Off Game -> ObsoleteSpider = Off Game -> ObsoleteTemplates = OnTerminalServer = OnTSWebClient = OnVol = OnWBEMSNMP = OnWMAccess = On Windows Media internet accessability?WMPOCM = OnZonegames = Off Game -> ObsoleteI Also found a file from microsoft wich makes it all more complicated, becouse there are a lot of components in here that aren't listed. The file can be found HERE.And seems like the component "msmsgs = off" isn't listed at the reference page made by DaveXP. So the $ 1.000.000 question is, What do these components mean and is it advisible to turn them off? If you do know one of em, be kind and post the answer, (i'll try and keep the list up to date...) Thanks!*Disclaimer: This is my first post (and thread), I've searched the site for the explanations and also google and another tech forum, but can't seem to find an answer to this question. The only topic with a similar question is This topic. But diden't help me much further either.
RayOK Posted April 3, 2004 Posted April 3, 2004 Hopefully you've looked at ref.chm? Comes in the Deployment Tools cab. Tells what most of these are. All of your blue ones are in there. Please look at that, update edit, etc..SP1 Deployment Tools
eirogge Posted April 3, 2004 Posted April 3, 2004 the xxxAccess things (IEAccess and so on) arent switches for the programs but for their shortcuts in startmenu, quicklaunch etc.
XtremeMaC Posted April 3, 2004 Posted April 3, 2004 b4 u do anything elsemost of those components are already turned offso unless otherwise said in winnt.sif they won't get installedthat's just a long list of stuff u can includeaverage user don't use most of them...those iis stuff u probably don't need (they're off)instead do this it might give u more meaning on those componentsgo to windows\inf folderthen findsysoc.infopen it with notepadgo to editgo to replacetype hide in "find what"and leave the replace with blanksave itthen go to add/remove programsopen up windows components now u shall see those components...
jdeboeck Posted April 4, 2004 Posted April 4, 2004 AccessOpt = On Accessibility Wizard? Nope, acc wizard AND cursorsDialer = On Network Diallers??? nope, its the phone dialerOEAccess = On Outlook Express? just the shortcut to itWMAccess = On Windows Media internet accessability? Nope, its the shortcut to win messengerwhy don't you just look em up yourselffindstr /i /c:COMPONENTNAME %WINDIR%\INF\*.INFthat should give you the filename where the component is defined. Look in there for more info.
cydine Posted April 4, 2004 Posted April 4, 2004 (edited) Check my winnt.sif (attached) for a complete list.WINNT.SIF Edited April 4, 2004 by cydine
XtremeMaC Posted April 4, 2004 Posted April 4, 2004 wow looks nice!!does it work like that (i mean with all those tabs?, cause when i put tabs in xplode it doesn't work, i know its not xplode in this case but just wondering..boom XPLODE )
cydine Posted April 4, 2004 Posted April 4, 2004 LOL, probably not. I just did it that way so it would look nice
cydine Posted April 4, 2004 Posted April 4, 2004 (edited) Hmm, the file above seems to be incomplete.Grab the full one hereI have to add that not all of these options will work for you. Some such as System Restore and Accessibility Tools are based on custom infs by gosh and others are based upon custom infs by myself. Edited April 4, 2004 by cydine
