keithy397 Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 Hi, I can't run the Help Assistant in Office XP on my Laptop with Win 8.1. When I try to run it, it states - The Office Assistant requires Microsoft Agent 2.0 or later. The product is available on the Office System Pack. I've looked through Microsoft Support but get lost in the different filters! I miss my little cat, Help!! ;-)
jaclaz Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 See here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/301990 In theory you can solve the issue by downloading and installing the msagent.exe but really cannot say if it may apply on Windows 8.1. Since the *same* issue happened for Windows 7 and there is instead a specific "hotfix" for it: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/969168 Maybe (just maybe) this latter will work/run on Windows 8.1, but YMMGV. jaclaz
keithy397 Posted May 17, 2015 Author Posted May 17, 2015 Sadly, neither of the above work with Win 8.1
jaclaz Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 There is a "modified package", see here:http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-winapps/how-to-install-microsoft-agent-in-windows-8-x64/97737a87-510d-4043-9048-b2cc562a872f?page=1 And, possibly better, an Open Source replacement that is reported (see above) to work on 8.1:http://doubleagent.sourceforge.net/ But seemingly there is no trace of "Links" (the cat). Most probably it is possible to use it if you get a copy of the .exe or of the .acs file, but you'll have to find yourself if it works, instructions are here:http://bellcraft.com/mash/chars.aspx#InstallingCharacters jaclaz.
