I already tried unplugging the optical drive and it didn't help.

My friend mentioned that he was using his vacuum cleaner to suck the dust out of this thing. I'm thinking, well, that probably wasn't a good idea :-)

A can of compressed air is all I ever use. Who knows what he banged into with the vacuum hose.

My money situation has been extremely tight lately, therefore I haven't gotten around to buying the external hard drive reader as suggested by another poster.

I never thought this "project" would be so darn complicated and annoying.

Well, I'm off to Walmart and BestBuy to look for the price on USB hard drive readers! A nice Sunday afternoon chore :-)
