Daniel_Purton Posted March 23, 2004 Posted March 23, 2004 When i try to install Messenger, i get an error coming up that says"MSN Messenger setup has failed with error code: '1601'. Please go to the MSN Messenger Web site and download the software from there."Has anyone had this problem before? or does anyone have a suggestion?
XtremeMaC Posted March 23, 2004 Posted March 23, 2004 did u have it installed b4?anyways go look and delete everything u have about msn in registry.then look for the .msi file in windows dir. delete that and then installthat's not a tried method, I do this whenever I get an error as stupid as that. it usually works...
ABEO Posted March 23, 2004 Posted March 23, 2004 Yeh delete all the files associated with it and try again.Allthough I had the setup I used on XP and it didn't work on a fresh installation, I just went to http://www.msnmessenger-download.com and redownloaded it(XP version again) and it works now.
