mrsticks Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 (edited) (windows server 2003 os)i've looked at the hive files on setup disk, inf files, resource hacked through most of the DLLs and EXEs went through REGINST and REGISTRY in mys.dll, ect. to see if anything covertly adds it to start menu, but every file i've looked through has nothing about pinned items.. i do know oh yeah can simply have a script delete *.lnk from startpage, but i would like to know exactly what file governs the creation of pinned start menu items during installation. it is just bugging the hell out of me that i cannot figure this out my disc is almost donealso im new here i do browse this site from time to time. great website!THANKS guys Edited June 3, 2012 by mrsticks
submix8c Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Taskbar->Start Menu->Customize->ClearSame as in XP, these are Recent Documents, Programs, Etc.To keep the Server Items from repeatedly popping up, check "Don't Show This Again" (or something like that).

submix8c Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 (edited) that screenshot is the start menu right after windows installsyou notice how it has "manage your server" and "windows explorer"i am looking for the file to edit to NOT have the "manage your server" and "windows explorer" app iconsi want to put an link to a folder on the setup cd that has installers to so it would look likethis...1 - No it isn't... Immediately after Install, by DEFAULT the Standard Start Menu is used (NOT "Classic"), so as soon as you "logged in" the "Manage Your Server" executed (AFAICR), and you MUST have used "Windows Explorer" at LEAST once!2 - I really don't know, BUT I believe it to be within the Registry for Your UserID. If you use the CLEAR instructions I gave, they will... DISAPPEAR!If you WANT a "shortcut" to anything -a - CREATE itb - Put it someplace OTHER than THERE, or "CLEAR it" will make it DISAPPEAR!I (normally) use Classic, switched to Standard, went to Administrative, ran "Manage", and it.... APPEARED. I ALSO ran "Command Prompt" and IT appeared! I dragged the "Command Prompt" to my Desktop and it ADDED the "little arrow" on the Desktop. I CLEARED again, then DRAGGED a "link" I had created to ANOTHER program from my Desktop to the Start Menu and it was THERE! I then CLEARED the Menu and it DISAPPEARED, same is with Right-Click "REMOVE ITEM". These are TEMPORARY Shortcuts AFAIK. That is NOT the place to put something you want a PERMANENT link to! Those types of items MUST be put into the actual START MENU!Again! In "Manage Your Server" there is a BOX at the Lower Left that SPECIFICALLY says "Don't Display At Logon"! CHECK IT and it will NEVER execute again - AT LOGON!HTH...(p.s. I am running Server 2k3...)edit - for giggles -http://www.technibble.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-31833.html Edited June 6, 2012 by submix8c
