I wonder if there is any applications which makes it possible to group similar taskbar buttons as they are grouped in XP.

Setting TaskbarGlomming doesn't have any noticeable effect so I guess this function is not present in the system at all. As an alternative I also tried to run ViGlance but it doesn't work in 2K.

After doing some searching I managed to find a tool which probably would do what I want... unfortunately its homepage is no longer on-line and I couldn't find any working URLs to download it
