Windows SP3 update failed; system going in loop on restarting

Hi,

I was trying to upgrade my system from SP2 to SP3. I mounted the SP3 image on PowerIso and started the upgrade process. But the installation errored out and said it is not able to find presetup.cmd and setupORG.exe files. I searched for txtsetup.sif file. I found two of them; one with and without the following lines:

presetup.cmd = 1,,,,,,,2,0,0

setupORG.exe = 1,,,,,,,2,0,0

As per the previous discussion in the link mentioned below, I added these lines on the second file and restarted the system. But the installation is still not continuing; everytime on restarting, the system is trying to restart the installation and failing. I also tried by starting in safe mode but no luck. Presently, I am able to boot in through linux and then access internet (the system is dual boot).

Does anybody pls. know how to overcome this problem. I will either like to roll back to SP2 or continue the installation to get SP3. Also since I can see two txtsetup.sif files, have I loaded windows over windows or something like that.

Thanks,

Emma Good.

You might try to boot to safe mode (and try things from there) but most likely, you'll need to do a repair install with an XP SP3 install CD.

To avoid spending time for nothing, i'd backup all useful files and try the repair install or reinstall from scratch as an incomplete installation of a service pack can be very very hard to repair.

hi, i'm using window XP SP2, it works fine but when i upgraded it to SP3, since i upgraded it, the PC get slower and won't recognize my multimedia audio controller(no sounds) anymore. I'm using Intel Pentium 4 3.00GHz and my HDD has 76 GB. I have 4 fans installed and removed 1 HDD that has 40 GB memory and make my OS back to SP2, the PC is now back to normal but the multimedia Audio controller still can't be recognize or no sounds.
