vasilina Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Hello all!!I am very happy to have came across your site and am hoping foe some guidence here.I have Server 2003 at my new job, that is running slow occasionally. Usually after it's been running for a while. The CPU at thoes times when it's slow show being used mostly 1%-2%. Sometimes goes up to 12%. But very slow and unresposive. Reboot helps. Depending on how often it is beeing use by users have to reboot it every 3 to 15 days.Run chkdsk - no bad sectors found.Run memtest - no errors.Run variuos soft to test hard drive speed - did not determine any problems there.Performance monitor shows read and write times hight often, but when it gets that slow - performance monitor - will freez and I don't know whats going on there.Of course had it checked for malware - have not found anything so far.Do not know what to try next.Hardware:Quantity Parts # Part Description1 TX235 Kit, Documentation On Compact Disk, Document Object Model V5.2, World Wide1 HY967 Assembly, Cable, Auxiliary, Internal, Switch, Integrated Drive Electronics to Serial ATA1 KX671 Storage, Bay, Internal, 5.25 RD10001 TH462 Assembly, Cable, Serial ATA, ROHS1 PJ044 Assembly, Cable, Serial Ata Double Speed, P19001 0R215 Cord, Power, 15A, 125V, 10, 5-15/C134 NP948 Dual In-line Memory Module, 1G 667M, 128X72, 8, 240, 2RX82 HN649 Hard Drive, 500G, ES3, 7.2K, 3.5 Segate-Galaxy1 XM880 GUIDE..., GETTING STARTED..., RD1000, UNITED STATES...1 CG582 Card, Backplane, Key TOE, 1PORT, Enterprise Systems Group1 GF677 Processor, 80555K, Xenon Dempsey, 5050, LGA771, C11 KN122 Printed Wiring Assy, Planar Server, Dell Computer Corporation, PE1900, G11 MC423 Assembly, Cable, IDE (INTEGRATED DRIVE ELECTRONICS) ..., Compact Disk Drive, 80PIN, P29001 TF102 Assembly, COMPACT DISK READ WRITE/DIGITAL VIDEO DISK DRIVE COMBO..., 48X Half Height, TOSHIBA SAMSUNG STORAGE TECHNOLOGY..., BLACK...1 RW471 Storage, Media, HDD, 120G, RD1000 InternalPlease let me know if any logs would help ?Would really apreciate any help!
allen2 Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 (edited) Check the eventlogs and most likely you'll find memory error 2020 or 2019 that are hard to fix as most of the time it comes from a driver not realeasing correctly the memory it use. See the msdn blog for this. Edited June 21, 2011 by allen2
Tripredacus Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Also, what does this server actually do? Is it slow to the clients, or actually at the console itself? Are you using a RAID, if so does its diagnositcs software say it is healthy?
vasilina Posted June 21, 2011 Author Posted June 21, 2011 (edited) HDs are not RAIDed.Right now server is running only as a DHCP. There is a domain controller on it too. Used to be VPN and fileserver before - while yet it was fast.Did not find any of mentioned memory error events of 2020 or 2019.I do have other types of errors that have occured for the last about 6 months.DNS Server errors: 4004, 4016, 4015, 6702;NTDS Replication errors: 1864, 2087;System errors: 54, 6008, 10005, 10010, 1111, 1059, 5722, 1041, 12294, I am not sure if any of these above can be resposible for slow downs or are a result from them? When the server is slow - it's slow every where - as DHCP to respond, Remote desktop as well as at the console itself.
