tjjunior Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Hello,Some, but not all, of the links in my Win7 control panel don't function, meaning I click on the link and nothing happens. For example, in the Control Panel home screen, I can click on "Network and Internet" then "Network and Sharing." But when I click on "Choose homegroup and sharing options" nothing happens. I can click on the "Programs" link in the main screen and it takes me to the submenu, but I can't click on "Uninstall a program" from either the main screen or the submenu. The workaround in that case is I can click on "Programs and Features" and it takes me to the uninstall programs menu luckily. It's been doing so for a couple of months, from memory it was soon after using a registry cleaner so I'm guessing it cleaned something it shouldn't have? Any suggestions? I've done virus scans (AVG) and spyware (SuperAntiSpyware through Google Apps) and they all come up clean. It's very frustrating! Thanks!
Tripredacus Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 1. Is this or was this computer ever used on a domain?2. Was the install of this OS slimmed with a tool like vLite, rt7lite or a similar tool?
tjjunior Posted May 9, 2011 Author Posted May 9, 2011 It is used on a work domain with 4 other computers in the office. Nobody (intentionality) changed any settings though and the other computers on the domain all appear fine (although they are all XP, this is the only Win7). It was not slimmed down or anything like that. Thanks!
Tripredacus Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 The domain controller may have applied policies to the system without your knowledge. Run gpresult /rfrom the cmd. You do not need to post the results, but look for the following (or similar) returns (this is from my PC here for reference)RSOP data for SKYLYNX\Username on SKYLYNX : Logging Mode----------------------------------------------------------OS Configuration: Member WorkstationOS Version: 6.1.7601Site Name: N/ARoaming Profile: N/ALocal Profile: C:\Users\UsernameConnected over a slow link?: NoCOMPUTER SETTINGS------------------ Last time Group Policy was applied: 5/10/2011 at 9:06:16 AM Group Policy was applied from: sub.domain.local Group Policy slow link threshold: 500 kbps Domain Name: DOMAIN Domain Type: Windows 2000 Applied Group Policy Objects ----------------------------- Default Domain PolicyYou wll also see something similar under USER SETTINGS.
