Folders disappered during Nlite ISO creation

I was helping my brother create an winxp iso on my win 7 ultimate, I used an winxp install disc in my cd-drive and everything went smoothely.

However after the installation several folders had disappered from my desktop! Very very important folders, containing my CurriciIlum Vitaes,

work documents etc, which I have not backed up!

I realise in hindsight that it was stupid of me to copy the files from the cd-drive onto my desktop when Nlite promted me where to put them. But now I

need help to get my files back, if in any way possible? Are they integrated into the winxp iso that i created or what?

Actually when I look, I can't find the ISO anywhere either.

Please help, anyone?

Strange. The ISO has to be somewhere if you made it and nLite shouldn't have deleted files. Must be a problem with Windows 7.

You can try Restoration and Recuva to see if you can find them. Try not to write to the partition they were on until you recover your files.

"Create a bootable ISO" has not been selected in the 1st screen. --> no ISO.

There definitely is a bug choosing the Desktop as a working folder for nLite. You also placed drivers on the desktop for them to be integrated... bad luck. I think you're no the first.

As for your other items, hum... stop using that computer immediately, and learn how to recover files booting from either an optical drive or USB or an other computer/OS with your disk as slave.

You EXPLICITLY asked nLite to delete these and it did. If you have a recent System Restore point before the deletion, the folders may be intact there. Be aware that your Desktop will be restored, so move any files you now have on your DT (and don't want lost or back leveled) before you attempt a restore. Enjoy, John.

yes, I realise now that I did ask it to do so.

When I was using the program though, I interpreted it as "do you want them in your winxp configuration".

I don't understand the usefulness of nlite actually removing the files instead of just disregarding them.

instead of just disregarding them.

Because making an ISO file is an option. The 1st use of nLite was to remove unneeded part of the installation files. Original files are copied to an empty folder, then selected elements are removed from the set of files. The working folder can be considered as the final product. You can also manually add, modify or remove things (before making an iso). That's why there is no "disregarding" list.
