An issue that I tried to fix almost a year ago has come back:

MAPISP32 caused an invalid page fault in module SHLWAPI.DLL

This is happening by (or because of) Outlook 2000. I've tried substituting different versions of shlwapi.dll and it doesn't seem to help. I have 4 different versions of shlwapi.dll. When I substitute the original (april /1999) version, I don't get a functional system - explorer craps out and complains about browseui.dll.

So I'm listing all the different versions of browseui, shlwapi, and explorer that I have on my system. The first version listed for each one is the one I currently am using. I only have 1 version of mapisp32.exe. Some of the version numbers for browseui and shlwapi seem to explicitly state that they come from or are for XP/sp2.

I've copied mapisp32 and shlwapi.dll from another win-98 machine that never shows this problem, and the files binary compare to what I have on this PC, so the problem is not a faulty file.

The problem I'm having is that outlook starts normally and it usually sits in a minimized state in my task bar until I need to send or read e-mail, at which point I'll bring it to the foreground and work with it. Outlook itself seems to always behave normally, but I will eventually get an error message pop-up saying that "MAPISP32 caused an invalid page fault in module SHLWAPI.DLL". There will be no mention or indication it was caused by outlook, and outlook itself will still be working ok (although I think that it will no longer send or receive new mail once that error happens).

So I'm wondering which versions of these files I should be using so that I stop getting this error. Or perhaps there's a version of one of them that I need - but don't have?

See if this helps. I've also seen some posts (via google) about a "hung" outgoing mail (including "viruses") and some "synchronization" problems with connecting to Exchange Server. Seems to revolve around PST file problems.

FWIW, it may have something to do with the IE6 module(s) not correctly interfacing.

Stand-alone Outlook 2000 or installed from Office 2000? Have you applied all of the updates?

I think I fixed the problem by disabling the KernelEx extensions for browseui.dll, mapisp32.exe and shlwapi.dll. I haven't seen the "MAPISP32 caused an invalid page fault in module SHLWAPI.DLL" error since I did that.
