Guest JustJohn Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Hi, Remember punch cards? I try to stay away from them, so I claim my first computer was in '78. Soldered together a Mark IV. It was 44lbs and we called that a portable computer. Spent time on VAXes in the early 80s, until I told my boss one time too many that we needed to learn about those new fangled PCs (Apples and Ataris and Commodores and Osbornes, etc). One day I came in & my boss told me I was now head of the new PC dept. Had to learn fast. My undergrad is in Chemistry & Math & Spanish (I grew up in Guatemala). My MA is in Linguistics. I'm KA6QMN (General class for those interested), which is how I got roped into computers. Remember that Mark IV? I tried to tell them I only knew RF & AF electronics, not digital, but nobody believed it, so I had to solder that thing together. Thanks for being here to help others.

Tripredacus Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Many people often asked what I took in college, and that was to repair and maintain mainframes and their terminals. Unfortunately the college decided to transition the program in my third semester, so it turned out that I used almost nothing I'd learned in college in my professional career. So you could say I am a dinosaur too!
Guest ben0xff Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 My apologies to my two fellow friends Tripredacus JustJohnRetarded i was to have said such nosense garbage.Godspeed in your Endeavors. Bye Now.
Guest JustJohn Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 I heard Yoda speaking. Aren't you from BEFORE the dinosaurs? I could use some training from Yoda: being able to lift spaceships with The Force could be useful.
