Please help! I am new to Project and am having a very hard time when splitting tasks. My goal is to create a task representing every "job" I am to manage. As a new job is booked, I place it on the chart as a block of time that represents the proposed duration of the job in days. It almost always becomes necessary to "split" the task up across different days or weeks, but for some reason, the duration of my 8 hour day changes.

Ex. I create a task that has a 3 day (24 hr) duration, when I grab the 3rd day and move it out, sometimes the day changes from 8 hours to some weird duration like .88 days. I try over and over to left click on the time block and drag it to represent a full day, but it keeps snapping back (frustrating).

The overall purpose of using this tool is so that I can run reports showing hours of "manpower" scheduled each week. This issue is making the report turn in weird hours. Essentially, I would like to have all tasks default to 8 hour days so that I can plan more accurately.

Splitting single tasks can be done, but as you have seen is troublesome.

A better approach is to split the task, like:

N° WBS Description Predecessor

1 1.0 JOB X

2 1.1<indent>Job X (first phase)

3 1.2<indent>Job X (second phase) 2FS+y days

4 1.3<indent>jJob X (third pjhase) 3FS+z days
