Cannot install Windows via nLite

Hey guys!

I'm new here and I'm not computer savvy as well. So, I need some professional input on this.

So, I'm using Vista Home Premium and I've decided to switch back to XP. I've used XP before, but it crashed and I wanted to go back to Vista. My laptop is a Sony VAIO VGN-NR310E series. It originally came with Vista.

I can't install XP. I've used nLite but still nothing. I've read some articles and some said that I had to download the drivers for my HDD? But I'm really not that good with computers. Please help me.

Thanks guys.

According to your MFG's website, these are the drivers you need. Open up device manager and post a screenshot showing your HD controller similar to this...

I'll explain how to proceed once I can see which controller you have.

OK. Start nLite, point it to a clean untouched XP source on your hard drive. In the tasks selection screen, choose drivers and bootable ISO. Click next. When you get to drivers screen, point it to the folder containing the drivers I previously mentioned. A screen will pop up asking you to select driver. Highlight Intel®82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH8M-E/M). Click OK. Click next, make ISO, etc.

Welcome to the forum. Please check rule 12 and edit your post. :hello:

I'm sorry. I'm kinda new here. How do I change the title then?

spades0001, to change the title, Edit your first post, using "Use Full Editor". Above in the Sticky portion of the Forum is good tutorial for nLite if you have not seen it. Also on the nLite site is a guide you should read. Enjoy, John.

****. My friend did something. He reformatted and brought it back to Vista. I'm going to reformat the HDD using Ubuntu Live CD. And then, I'll insert the XP CD and let's see if that works...

Spades:

I see a few issues here, you are making your disk while in Vista (Well known to cause issues)

My suggestion?

Grab a virtual machine, Install XP on it with your SP2 disk (The one you already have)then in that VM slipstream SP3 and your driver into your source. Please remember to check txtmode driver and then "Bobs your uncle" you'll be good to go.
