Oliverbomb Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Hi I've a laptop with 512 MB of Ram, (Mini-DDR SDRAM) expensive...60 GB Harddrive,1.6 Intel Centrino Single Core processorand 64 MB Intel Extreme Graphics 2 Card.I should stick with XP Right?
cluberti Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 With those specifications, you will probably find XP to be a better performer than Windows 7 on that machine in most scenarios.
re8 Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 512 MB RAM? If you had money for Win7, you might as well spring the extra $300+ for a full Win7 machine that has atleast 2GB. Though people do install a stripped-down Win7 on a 1GB netbook...
John305 Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 Hi most netbooks come with win 7 starter edition on them.
puntoMX Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Hi I've a laptop with 512 MB of Ram, (Mini-DDR SDRAM) expensive...60 GB Harddrive,1.6 Intel Centrino Single Core processorand 64 MB Intel Extreme Graphics 2 Card.I should stick with XP Right?Keep it with XP indeed, 512MB less the 1 to 8MB it uses for the video card isn't much but will do for windows 7 home basic. Main problem is the basic video drivers that come with Windows 7; that driver would perform slow with the Intel Extreme Graphics 2. Other chipset functions are well supported I must say so is the soundchip.Hi most netbooks come with win 7 starter edition on them. The newer models do indeed, but there are loads left with windows XP who are sold cheap. As far as I can tell, Windows XP will stop to being shipped in October this year as Windows 7 would be released one year before that.
DJB Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Any machine (regardless of being a desktop or laptop) with 1GB RAM or less I'd recommend XP.
