Windows 7 Unattended install - bootstrap settings error

Hi,

I'm trying to make an unattended installation of Windows 7 (my first one ever) so I made have messed up some things.

I get an error saying: "Windows could not apply Windows PE Bootstrap setting specified in the unattend answer file"

Below my autounattend.xml - can someone tell me what's wrong with it?

What I'm trying to acchieve is that the setup runs from an USB stick. So no data resides on network locations etc.

I'm sure if you validated your XML in WSIM you would have an error. This for example:

                <ProductKey>
                    <WillShowUI>Never</WillShowUI>
                    <Key>xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx                </ProductKey>

However, this might be because you copypasta your XML into the post. You should attach your XML to your post sans product key.

markb81, your problem may be your log path. From unattend.chm, concerning <LogPath>:

Specifies the fully qualified, non-UNC path to a directory on a fixed disk of the local computer.

For example, to create log files in a Log folder at the root of C:, set this value to C:\Log.

Path_to_log_file is a string, with a maximum length of 259 characters.

I rebuilded the answer file with only required things (below), and I think I'm a little further now.

The problem was in the <pagefile>. However when I type in %windir% or %windir%\pagefile.sys I get the same error in the new answer file as well.

After removing this entry setup runs

What I want to acchieve now is that after setup has run:

- The wireless connection dialog appears so you can make an internet connection

- Windows is activated

- MS office is automatically installed (source must be the installation USB stick)

- A virusscanner is installexd (source must be the installation USB stick)

How can I accomplish this?

ok, I'm a little further then expected.

After setup completes I do get the wireless connection options, and I can type in Username/pw + computername.

After logging on updating starts. Activation isn't done but my serial came through cause I can do it manually.

So open items are:

- Windows must be activated

- MS office is automatically installed (source must be the installation USB stick)

- A virusscanner is installexd (source must be the installation USB stick)

Anybody that can help?
