Well, this is not really an nLite problem. You probably have C:\ on your VM where Windows is installed and D:\ which is the CD ROM drive, so it can't unpack (write) on the CD ROM.

As to why .NET Framework didn't install, I couldn't be too sure. How did you run it? If silently, which switches did you use?

ItaloEvil, here is the same log from my install of .NET 4 on HW under W7. It looks pretty much the same and I do not think it is really an error. When I look at almost any of the .log files on my W7 installs, I see errors all over the place. Please note the next to last line "[5/22/2010, 10:41:10] Exiting with result code: 0x0", which is the same as yours. I have no problems that I am aware of and would ask what if any problems you have. I think this is OK. Enjoy, John.

ItaloEvil, here is a quote from Kurt_Aust's thread on doing XP x64 installs. I think it applies to XP also. If you have not installed the earlier .NET (3.5), then you need to do that and the SPs that go with it. I attach my Programs list from my W7 (comes with .NET 3.5) install. You can see .NET 4 installed. Do you not see it in your Add/Remove list? My .log file looks just like yours, so I think that error has nothing to do with your problem. So we have as much information as possible, please provide the following information:

• Attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini file.
  
• Paste the code (batch file, if used) that you are using to install .NET 4.
  
• A screen shot of your Add/Remove list around .NET.
  
• Screen shots of any error messages you are getting.

Thanks again, Kurt_Aust. I am wondering about .NET. Do we really need all the versions and the SPs? Right now I am installing only 3.5 and the SPs on my XP x64 system. My plan on my W7 x64 and next XP install is to use only 4.0. What else, if anything, do I need with it? Thanks, John.

The .Net 4.0 installer, unlike the .Net 3.5 one, is NOT cumulative, it only installs the additional components that comprise .Net 4.0. Hence on Windows Vista and earlier you will need to install .Net 3.5 sp1 (.Net 3.5 is already included in Windows 7).

Personally I wouldn't bother with .Net 4.0 for now as it will be a while (as noted in the guide) before we see applications using it in the wild, it was 2 years after the release of .Net 3.5 before I came across an application using it (most rely on .Net 2.0 only).

I probably would have waited longer to add .Net 4.0 in the (forlorn) hope that a fully updated .Net 2.0 through .Net 4.0 installer would be released, but .Net 4.0 had already been mentioned by Trance-Energy in the guide.

You CANNOT integrate .net like that. It will not install at t-13 (Svcpack time) without extreme modification...

He needs to learn to use runonce commands.

Agreed. I used to have luck with 1.0 and 1.1 from svcpack.ini with only minor modification, but since 2.0 it just doesn't work - too much of Windows is still not ready yet, and .net 2.0 (and even 1.1, if doing straight from source) require too much of Windows to be installed and running to work. I would second the recommendation of using RunOnceEx to install .NET after installation of Windows is complete.
