forjonny Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 I keep hearing about Windows Installer. Do I need this program for just basic computing and Internet surfing? I keep thinking that it will make things smoother when installing and uninstalling items from my computer. But am I wasting my time downloading this program. Note: Please don't send me to Wikipedia for a description of Windows Installer, it makes no sense to me. Microsoft's website as well. I need layman terms and discussions.
MrJinje Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 No, all current windows OS come with a version of Windows installer (WI). The newer versions of "WI" are only needed if you try to install an MSI that says it cannot be installed without it. Newer versions may allow developer's easier/better control over their installation, but it's nothing special from a non-technical end-user POV.IMO, no need to waste your time downloading it.
