doveman Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 As Windows Updates are constantly coming out, I was wondering if it's possible to run nLite again at a later date and update them, providing I don't use Direct Hotfix Integration (I'm assuming this is completely out of the question if I did use this option). So I've setup all the options and removed components, etc and added some hotfixes (with Direct Hotfix Integration disabled, so that they go in the SVCPACK folder). Can I then go back and select only the Hotfixes, Add-ons and Update Packs button, disable Direct Hotfix Integration and add all the Windows Updates I've downloaded with Windows Update Downloader (which will include some of the updates I added on the first run) to keep my nlite'd XP up to date? I presume I should empty the SVCPACK folder before doing this.If I also added some program addons on the first run, is there a way to remove these. I've just tried doing this process and even though I've deleted the program addons from the SVCPACK folder, it still references them in the new SVCPACK.IN_ in the [setupHotfixesToRun] section, even though I didn't load a Preset or Last Session, so it's clearly not that simple.
johnhc Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 doveman, the best way to accomplish what you are trying (both) is to start over with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, use you previous Last Session and add/delete whatever you want. Messing around with folder contents of a previous nLite run and adding hot fixes is just asking for major problems. Enjoy, John.
doveman Posted April 22, 2010 Author Posted April 22, 2010 Fair enough. I know this is the usual advice but I thought perhaps it might be possible to do this.I'll just do as you suggest to avoid problems. Cheers.
mooms Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Don't add updates with nLite! instead, use an update pack: (you usually can integrate it with nLite, if not use rvmi) it will "slipstream" (or integrate) the updated files instead of adding each KB to the svcpack folder: install is cleaner, faster and your source file is smaller!
