Allubz Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Dear nLite users,I hope this isn't a dumb question but here it is:I stripped my x64 installation severely for SuperPi benchmarking. It happens that I can't change my background now and the competition I'm entered in requires a certain background to be used. What service or setting do I set for the background changing to be available instead of the standard black one?Thank you in advance,Al
johnhc Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Allubz, good question. Please attach your Last Session.ini as requested above in bold RED letters and we will take a look. I am curious what kinds of SuperPi time you are seeing. Enjoy, John.
Allubz Posted April 16, 2010 Author Posted April 16, 2010 (edited) Hi John,Thanks for replying.Dang I really wanted to upload that .ini file but I simply forgot! Here it is!The performance gain over a standard installation isn't really that noticable, but the OS generally boots a tad quicker. I'm having a boot time of roughly 20 seconds on a WD 250GB Caviar 16 SE, which isn't a top-performer. The Windows loading screen doesn't even pass one loading bar.I preserved just the basics and internet so I can upload the results. The only thing I really need is a background now and anything anyone can tell me what would bring more performance gain to my SuperPi's.Current SuperPi on the Phenom II X2 555 BE is 16.323, 4.25GHz, 1.55v on proper air cooling. I'm getting my watercooling back together next week so it should give some more interesting results.Cheers,AlLAST SESSION.INI Edited April 16, 2010 by Allubz
johnhc Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 Allubz, I really don't see anything that is obvious to me. You may have to do some trial and error testing. I hope you are using a virtual system for testing. VirtualBox and VMware Server are free. I do see that you are running nLite under Vista (or W7) to create an ISO for XP. Sometimes this leads to a problems, especially if you include a Service Pack. You have a number of services disabled. An easy test is to enable and start them all to see if that helps. Another thought - if you open a folder containing images (your desired wall paper), have Thumbnails or Filmstrip selected and right click an image file, one of the options is 'Set as Desktop Background'. Do you have this option and can you then set your desired wallpaper? What do you mean when you say you cannot change your BG? Do you get an error (please post a screen shot), the option is missing and where? BTW, I did some searching for a good defrag program and found MyDefrag (free). It has done a great job on my machine reducing boot times. I use AutoLogon and do not even see the Logon screen. Like you I have an AMD CPU but a 965 BE. I am running stock and just ran a single copy of SuperPi for 2M digits and got about 50 seconds. Four copies (HyperPi) is about the same, maybe a little longer. Still curious what you see at the really aggressive clock. Please let us know what you learn on the background change. Enjoy, John.
Allubz Posted April 16, 2010 Author Posted April 16, 2010 Hi John,Fact is that I'm tuning the OS for an overclocking contest I'm in. That means I'll be looking at the highest clock attainable, which currently is 4.4GHz on air and will be going up with the upcoming watercooling. I am not using a VM for the same reason.I am actually not having the "Set this image as background" option, as a matter of fact. I should've said that.Service Pack 3 is integrated in my Windows XP x64 image file so there is no special adding it, as I do believe.I am really searching for a very specific feature that I disabled which also disabled my background image service. I found a few people on the net having issues with their background due to virusus and such, and they are suppose to run the following commands:regsvr32 /i shimgvw.dllregsvr32 /i shell32.dllI do not have either DLL file and I suppose simply downloading and adding them will not do the trick either, altough I can give this a try. The most important thing for me to know is what feature I enabled for removing caused the removal of this specific background image feature.Thank you for your time!
Sp0iLedBrAt Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 Service Pack 3 is integrated in my Windows XP x64 image file You meant Service Pack 2, right? Anyway, I also did a bit of searching, but unfortunately came up with nothing.Good luck
Allubz Posted April 16, 2010 Author Posted April 16, 2010 Myeah, you're right. That was an auto pilot type error Odd odd..
johnhc Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 Allubz, I would be really surprised if you really do not have shell32.dll. If you are searching your CD, then you need to search for shell32.dl*, since it will be compressed into SHELL32.DL_. I would strongly advise against DLing any system files. Get it or them from your original CD, and remember they will be compressed. Just expand them (I use 7-Zip) and put them into the System32 folder. You will also have one or both in your SysWoW64 folder. These are 32 bit versions. You may need both. Enjoy, John.
Allubz Posted April 20, 2010 Author Posted April 20, 2010 Multimedia -> Images & BackgroundsRemoving this service will remove the wallpaper feature.Got a fixed .iso now.Thank you for all the help, though!
johnhc Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 Allubz, thanks much for reporting. Glad you are running and you are welcome. Enjoy, John.
