iPod Touch sync query

Whenever I sync apps or data from my pc to iPod, iTunes tries to contact Google. Is there a reason for this? I do have Google Earth installed on the iPod so I thought that perhaps it was looking for updates for that but it happens if I just sync notes or emails accounts etc.
