AllenF Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 (edited) Hi guys I dont know if this is in the right place so if not please feel free to move it..I have a problem and cant see what I`m doing wrong.I changed theSHELL 32.dll fileMSGINA.dll fileNTOSKRNL.dll fileWINNTBBU.dll file(basically to make xp look like 7 and install as such without having to run windowblinds or something similar)When i throw these into the I386 folder and "replace" the old ones the boot it, it seems to throw everything back to the original xp stuff. How do I make xp keep these modified files? I have used the MAKECAB command and they now see as .DL_ foles the same as the original files. What have i missed here I kanow its something silly but cant for the life of me either find it or see itCheersAllen Edited January 31, 2010 by AllenF
jaclaz Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I do not understand what you mean:When i throw these into the I386 folder and "replace" the old ones the boot it, it seems to throw everything back to the original xp stuff. Are you trying to create a new BOOT CD form a \I386\ folder?Or are you trying to replace them on a live system?Do you have WFP (or SFC if you prefer) turned off?Can you try better detailing what you are trying to do and waht happens?jaclaz
AllenF Posted January 31, 2010 Author Posted January 31, 2010 Sorry its for a custom bootable cdWFP is modified to be offwhen i copy the new .dl_`s files to the source folder then Nlite does it stuff and i install on a VM then all the dl_`s that i put in have somehow reverted back to the windows original ones even though they were deleted from the source folder Hope that helps and makes sense
jaclaz Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Hope that helps and makes senseIt does help , but it doesn't make sense (to me at least) .You create a .iso with nlite, right? The files inside the .iso are the modified ones or they are not?Verify the MD5/CRC of the files you modified and compare them to those in the .iso.AFAIK "original" files cannot be recreated from thin air, and the VM should "know nothing" about them.i.e. I presume that the "original" are written to the .iso instead of the "modified" ones. jaclaz
AllenF Posted January 31, 2010 Author Posted January 31, 2010 p the files in the ISO are the modded ones.and yes the original files (that were deleted and replaced with the modded ones that check out with iso buster as the modded ones) seem to take there place. So i get the ORIGINAL install of xp not the modded version of xpmd5`s modded2CD602ABA8482E457ACAC5298839EDB4original8A5EA6D8B09C9ACF2B57EADCC3F839ED????now i`m totally lost lol
jaclaz Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 now i`m totally lost lolAnd that makes a nice, round, total of 2 of us. jaclaz
Geej Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Since your are replacing SHELL32.dll,MSGINA.dll,NTOSKRNL.dll & WINNTBBU.dll in your nlite source, possible solution might be these 2 references:http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/64/http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/66/Hope this is something useful
AllenF Posted February 1, 2010 Author Posted February 1, 2010 modifyPE doesn`t seem to want to work for me all i get is errors then the BSOD tried it on three different pc`s (three differnt source files all clean install) so i have binned that optionquestion is the checksums should they be different or not.Maybe I`m going up the wrong path here.
