Hi.

You must ignore restart message and next step.

And the error dialog shows some times, you must close it.

If you selected restart and reboot your pc , you must reinstall it.

Still no success. There were lots of Error Messages.

I will post all the details tomorrow.

After trying to start iTunes, the final message I got was as follows.

"iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 127)"

Do I need to restart the PC now?

Can you show me dependency walker log file (dwi)?

Save it after load itunes.exe and profiling start.

And did your iPhone or iPad device recognize on Your PC ?

There will be more than 1 post to give you all the details I documented because there are a lot of images to show.

Here are the details from the installation I attempted last night.

After starting the installation the first error message I got was as follows.

When I clicked on OK for the above message, I got a message indicating that an Entry Point was Not Found for AppleMobileDeviceService.exe but I missed capturing an image of that message.

Around the same time there was also a message indicating that the Apple Mobile Device Service failed to start.

I clicked on the Retry button for the Apple Mobile Device Support message (Service failed to start).

I then clicked on the OK button, multiple times, for the AppleMobileDeviceService.exe - Entry Point Not Found message.

Eventually the Apple Mobile Device Support message (Service failed to start) reappeared and I clicked on the Ignore button.

The Apple Mobile Device Support message then displayed the following and I clicked on the No button.

A message regarding the Bonjour directory appeared and I found a file called Bonjour that had a size of 342KB and a date/time of "6/4/2011 16:20".

I saved that file to another directory before deleting it and then clicked on the Retry button.

I then got a message that mdnsNSP.dll failed to register.

I tried clicking on the Retry button and then the Ignore button.

I then got a message that Service 'Bonjour Service' failed to start.

I then clicked on the Retry button twice before clicking on the Cancel button. I am using Windows 2000 Server as the Administrator.

After clicking on the Cancel button the following message was displayed,

I clicked on the Yes button and afterwards the following message appeared.

I clicked on Retry multiple times before clicking on Ignore.

I then got the following message.

At this point the Output for "setupit.cmd" had reached the following.

I clicked on the OK button, for the above message, and I got the Windows Installer Message below.

I then got a message indicating that Windows XP was required.

I pressed the Enter key and the Output was updated with "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support>".

I tried starting iTunes and got the following message.

I clicked on OK but nothing more happened.

I tried restarting the PC but got the message you can see in the following image.

After 2 attempts, I was able to start the PC in Safe Mode.

I tried to remove iTunes and got the following message.

I then attempted to remove Apple Mobile Device Support but got the same message above.

The same occurred for Apple Application Support.

I restarted the PC again but this time using the option for Last Known Good Configuration.

After I logged on I got the following message.

Attaching the iPhone to a USB port causes the following message to be displayed and the "Unplug or Eject Hardware" icon to appear in the Task Manager bar.

However, at least the battery is being charged.

Double-Clicking on the "Unplug or Eject Hardware" icon opens the following window.

Debugging with Dependency Walker

All Dependency Walker files are in the following Zip file.

I loaded "iTunes.exe" into Dependency Walker and then saved the result as File "iTunesAfterLoadInDependencyWalker.dwi".

I then opened the "Profile Menu/Start Profiling ..." item and selected the options you can see in the following image.

After the Profiling started, the first error message indicated that Entry Point "getaddrinfo" could not be located as shown in the following image.

I clicked on the OK button.

The next message indicated that iTunes was not installed correctly as shown in the following image.

I clicked on the OK button.

I then saved file "iTunesAfterProfilingByDependencyWalker.dwi" for the Profiling results.

File "usbaapl.sys" is located in the "C:\WINNT\system32\drivers" directory.

File "usbaaplrc.dll" in the "C:\WINNT\system32" directory.

I loaded "usbaapl.sys" into Dependency Walker.

The following message was displayed.

I clicked on the OK button.

I then saved File "usbaaplAfterLoadInDependencyWalker.dwi".

I opened the NTOSKRNL.EXE branch and highlighted 2 Functions as can be seen in the following image.

I then saved File "usbaaplAfterProfilingByDependencyWalker.dwi".

I used the following Profiling Options.

Your PC seems not to apply enough Windows Update. :(

You must apply All Windows Update in your PC.

I have downloaded the "Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4 – v2".

Do I need any other updates?

Did I see an SP5 on your website?

Should I use "Add/Remove Programs" in Control Panel to remove iTunes etc. before applying the "Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4 – v2" ?

I'm not blackwingcat but I think he means that you should just run Windows Update and install everything what will show up there.

Hi Tomas,

I have never used Windows Update because I was aware that it does not always work correctly and can cause further problems.

Therefore I have always downloaded "stable" Service Packs and run the associated installation for them.

When did you last use Windows Update? Did you have any problems with it?

Should I uninstall iTunes etc before applying any Windows updates?

Windows Update works correctly if you just want to install all official updates. It's simpler to use than installing tons of official updates manually.

It seems you don't apply even SP4 Update Rollup 1(v2).

I think you applied SP4 only.

And other Windows Update also includes many API Update.

I think you can just leave iTunes for now and first install UR1 and then just run Windows Update and install EVERYTHING available there. After that you can try to play around with iTunes again.

I have installed "the "Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4 – v2" but only one improvement has occurred.

Now, I do not get the following message when I attach the iPhone to the USB port.

I have tried to activate "Automatic Updates" for "Windows Update" but have not been successful.

When I Double-Click on the icon, in Control Panel, for "Automatic Updates" the following is displayed.

I have tried the instructions, at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2497281, but nothing has been achieved with those.

My version of wuauclt.exe is 5.4.3630.2554.

I found the following page and followed the instructions there but still nothing positive. I did not need to make any changes to the Registry.

Thanks to the following page, I found that the "Automatic Updates" service was disabled.

Access Denied. Please Check With Your System Admin.

After I started the "Automatic Updates" service, the System Properties still appear as follows with no Tab for "Automatic Updates".

I found the following on MSFN and I was wondering, except for the "INSTALLATION PROCEDURES" and installation of "Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1" and "Update Rollup 1 version 2" which I already have installed, if I should follow these instructions next?
