I can access the net using IE or ForeFox, and access my emails thru them too, but when I try to access the server, and any files on there, i get nothing...Pressing "windows & E" only brings up my DVD drive and hard drive GRRRRRAny ideas, I have called our IT guy, and basically, his comment was ..."thats why we stick to xp" ...grrrrrrrrrrrrrAny help would be appreciated, and I should be able to convince the IT guy to help out alittle if I try.Thanks,Mark.
MrJinje Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 (edited) Can you map directly to the share ? net use Z: \\server\share /user:domain\username passwordOr is File Sharing disabled ?Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings-------------------Is the computer a member of the domain and/or are you logging into with domain user account. Or are you just using your local account created during installation ? Edited January 12, 2010 by MrJinje

Tripredacus Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 We're also going to need to know what version of Windows 7 you have.
Grewman Posted January 12, 2010 Author Posted January 12, 2010 (edited) Running WIndows 7 Home Premium, on a HP Pavillion dv6 notebook.I basically bought the laptop 2 days ago, and have taken it to the office and plugged in the network cable, with my old laptop, all was ok, but that was running Vista..If i remember correctly, that was all I had to do.I think W7 is a little more complex this time lolThanks. cluberti Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Can you tell us what you need access to (either how you got to it in Vista or XP), and what you've tried on Win7? Win7 Home Premium doesn't have access to joining a domain, but it should be able to access domain resources depending on what type. It won't necessarily be as easy as it would be in Professional, Ultimate, or Enterprise though, obviously, as those have windows domains support.

MrJinje Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 (edited) I'll assume you already enabled file-sharing as described in Post #2. What happens when you try to map your drive. net use H: \\menzwolsvr01\users$ /user:DOMAIN\JoeSmth passwordDid a google search for your error code, one of the possible solutions was disabling the Norton 360 Firewall that some laptops have. Best bet is to uninstall/disable every bloatware, firewall, or security related app until you are able to connect. (assuming you already enabled file-sharing)Sidebar: What do they pay your IT guy for, it's been three weeks and you are still not up and running. Tell him or your boss you are unable to do your work until someone manages to map your network drives for you. Edited February 3, 2010 by MrJinje
