CSF Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 I used NLite to integrate SP3 into XP Pro SP2 then made the ISO with CdimageGUI. It installed without a problem using Virtual Box.I then used Belac Advisor to find the needed security updates there were 50 to be added.I integrated the 50 updates into XP Pro SP-3 and made the ISO.Using Virtual Box again I did a format and install. The install went well but at restarted it hung on the Windows XP logo. After waiting 10 minutes I shut the virtual machine down and tried starting it up again. It stared up fine and restarted several times after without a problem. However absent when I shut down and restarted was a window for adding user names and another that checks internet connectivity and one to register Windows (if there is a connection to the internet). I tested the same XP Pro SP-3 on Microsoft Virtual Machine with the same result hanging after restart. It is somehow related the second update integration but I have no idea how to determine which update may be causing this issue. Has anyone had this happen and found a solution?
johnhc Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 CSF, it sounds like you have either run nLite more than once against the same source or used another program against your nLite modified source. Either process is going to lead to problems most likely. So, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.
CSF Posted December 15, 2009 Author Posted December 15, 2009 You are right I did 2 sessions with Nlite 1 for the service pack and 1 for the 50 updates. This may very well be where I went wrong let me try integrating all at the same time and see how it goes. Can you tell me how to locate the Last Session.ini file just in case? Thanks!
CSF Posted December 15, 2009 Author Posted December 15, 2009 I read that I must have XP SP1a or higher to integrate SP3 I have a version with no sevice packs so should I add SP2 and SP3?The infromation source was here:https://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.windowsxp.setup_deployment&tid=bc5bc030-062b-4c53-bc94-93c3c7b2f2e4&cat=en_US_537bfaf9-be75-4581-b553-7940b030cc77〈=en&cr=US&sloc=&p=1
johnhc Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 CSF, unless you selected the Option in nLite to not save the Last Session, it will be in your source folder after you run nLite. It is always saved in the Presets folder in the nLite folder of Program Files, by date/time code. Please go ahead and post it when you find it. You need only one SP, (normally the latest, SP3) no matter what you start with. The article (assuming it is the same as I looked at before), applies only to a running system. Enjoy, John.
cluberti Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 1 - Never run nLite on an nLite'd source, bad things happen 2 - You only need SP1 on a *running* system to install SP3 - you can slipstream SP3 on any SP-level source (even RTM).
CSF Posted December 15, 2009 Author Posted December 15, 2009 OK I started with a clean copy of XP Pro (no sp) I selected service pack (sp3) and hot fix (50 post sp3 updates) integration in Nlite and did it in 1 session. There were 2 failed integrations 960803 and 971961.When I installed on Virtual Box the hang problem repeated. The Last Session.ini is attached.Last_Session.ini
johnhc Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 CSF, there are two clear problems. You have updates for IE8 and WMP11 and neither are installed. Also, you should get no integration errors with the updates. Some updates do not integrate and you can search these forums by KB numbers to see if you have found two. I suggest you look for an Update Pack to your liking at RayanVM forum. You also need an AddOn for IE8. WMP11 can be installed using the WMP11 Slipstreamer by booogy (see these forums). You just install WMP11 Slipstreamer on your system then include the WMP11 installer (from MS DL site) and updates into the nLite hot fix section. Good luck, John.
catsado Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 Hello. Read my topic here - http://www.msfn.org/board/little-help-t140293.html maybe you did wrong like me
CSF Posted December 17, 2009 Author Posted December 17, 2009 Catsado you were exactly right here is what worked for me.Used Windows update downloader to find and download updates for XPSP3.I removed anything pertaining to media player and IE 8 from the folder.Used Nlite to integrate SP3 and the 48 updates into a clean copy of XP Pro RTM.Made the ISO and it installed without problems.I used Belarc Advisor to check the update status and it found 5 more security updates. As a test I repeated the above process and added the 5 updates and the install again went perfectly.I did try the RyanVM pack I used a current one dated 12/9/09 which had the basic security updates and some extras.I used Nlite to integrate SP3 and the RVM Integrator for the pack but there were multiple file copy errors during the install set up. I repeated the process with the same result. Also the ISO image was over 870MB in size. Obviously there is a learning curve with that method. The bottom line is I have a working copy with 99% of the updates integrated. Great forum!
johnhc Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 CSF, using another program, such as RVM Integrator with nLite is asking for trouble. You should be able to add the Update Pack to the nLite Hot Fix section. Enjoy, John.
Guest Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 CSF, take a look at the link in my signature. With the exception of IE8, it list all the updates and addons you need to see a clean Windows Update. Also make sure to use the /integrate command on the WindowsXP-WindowsMedia-KBxxxxxx updates if you are not slipstreaming WMP 11.
