Butterknife Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Hi, I'm new.I've been using an nLited XP for a long time now, that my cousin has made for me, because I have a SATA disc that needed additional driver to be XP-installable. I got a new XP SP3, but I can't install it on a SATA disc, as it doesn't recognize it as being there, so I resorted to nLite to slipstream the driver in. In addition to that, I only added support for my keyboard layout and it reported only 0.64MB additional data. After the image was created, I was shocked to see it being 15.7GB! What happened and how to fix it???
Ponch Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Just look what's in your folder and subfolders (\i386 and others), 15Gig of unwanted data should not be hard to spot.Someone else reported having unsuspectedly integrated much more drivers that he thought because selecting a folder that contained them all.
Butterknife Posted November 18, 2009 Author Posted November 18, 2009 Loaded it up in Alcohol and it would seem that all of the folders have been tripled or quadrupled. Pretty strange. Initially, I loaded a folder containing SATA drivers, the whole thing was only about 7MB. Seeing how it was an .exe driver without .inf files, I had to install it first and then slipstream the folder it created in Program Files, according to a how-to I found online. I think that's how my first XP was done so I'm trying to replicate the procedure.I'll try creating a new image, perhaps targeted to a different locations, and see how big it will be then.
johnhc Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Butterknife, one mistake some make is to not create a new (empty) folder to copy the CD contents into. NLite then takes the whole C: disk as the source. So start over, make a new folder and copy all the contents of the CD into it. It should be about 500-600 MB. Then, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.
