G8YMW Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 A question, I think I know the answer but just to confirm. My wife is planning to buy a laptop from a national retail chain with Win 7 on board. The question is can she load Linux on to create a dual boot machine?Im sure the answer is "Yes"Is it better to run Linux as a virtual machine within Win 7?
Insomneac Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 I'm no expert on Linux, but the answer is yes.A VM will generally use more resources, it's usually better to dual-boot.A lot of OEM PC's have a seperate hidden partition used for system recovery, just make sure you don't use that and you create a seperate partition.I would also strongly suggest you make sure you get a Windows 7 DVD with your laptop. Not a recovery CD/DVD, but a proper Windows 7 DVD.
