extradesk Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 (edited) I have pop-ups saying I need to start the help and support service. Try as I might I can't find it. I did a search, and went to msconfig and checked all programs listed there and I seem to have lost it from my pc. How can I get it back? Edited November 7, 2009 by extradesk
Guest Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 You probably applied a tweak that removed it from the start menu. Press F1
guoqiang Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 I have pop-ups saying I need to start the help and support service. Try as I might I can't find it. I did a search, and went to msconfig and checked all programs listed there and I seem to have lost it from my pc. How can I get it back?First of all, try this command, helpctr.exe from Start | Run.If helpctr.exe not found, then this feature is disabled during the time of nlite-ing.
extradesk Posted November 7, 2009 Author Posted November 7, 2009 Thanks. Tried both suggestions and nothing! It just isn't there. How can I get it....is there a download or something? Since it's part of the the system programs, is there a way to get just it from recovery? I can't imagine how it was deleted. I do everything I can to keep my pc clean.
extradesk Posted November 8, 2009 Author Posted November 8, 2009 I went to C;\windows\pchealth\helpctr\binaries and found these applications helpctr.exe.....helphost.exe.....helpsvc.exe....hscupd.exe.....msconfig.exe I hesitate to click on any of them without knowing what it is (have enough trouble) any suggestions?
Guest Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 Make sure your Help and Support service is running and that it's set to automatic.
extradesk Posted November 8, 2009 Author Posted November 8, 2009 That's my problem....help and Support will not run.
guoqiang Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 That's my problem....help and Support will not run.open services.msc, look for Help and Support..., Properties, Startup type: automatic, start
extradesk Posted November 8, 2009 Author Posted November 8, 2009 Thank you, thank you, thank you, guoqiang! I have no idea how that became disabled, but it's working now by following your directions.
