  1. Thank you for your response. I tried many things and nothing worked. The 'Properties' are different on the laptop connection from the desktop. The laptop was a corporation pc so I unchecked several things (I don't know what all) and guess what....it works!! I really feel dumb! (but happy) Thanks again
  2. I purchased a refurbished Dell laptop. For the Wireless Network Connection it has-- Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network Connection.---- For LAN it has Broadcom 570x Gigabit Integrated Controller.--- It connects sporadically with the wireless....(I suspect it must be getting signal from my neighbor)....I don't particularly want to use wireless at home. I tried to connect it to my Verizon DSL cable which I have for my desktop (which I disconnected) and it shows it's plugged in, but doesn't connect to internet. I have a Westell 6100 DSL modem. What can I do to connect the laptop? It is Windows XP.
  3. Thank you, thank you, thank you, guoqiang! I have no idea how that became disabled, but it's working now by following your directions.
  4. That's my problem....help and Support will not run.
  5. I went to C;\windows\pchealth\helpctr\binaries and found these applications helpctr.exe.....helphost.exe.....helpsvc.exe....hscupd.exe.....msconfig.exe I hesitate to click on any of them without knowing what it is (have enough trouble) any suggestions?
  6. Thanks. Tried both suggestions and nothing! It just isn't there. How can I get it....is there a download or something? Since it's part of the the system programs, is there a way to get just it from recovery? I can't imagine how it was deleted. I do everything I can to keep my pc clean.
  7. I have pop-ups saying I need to start the help and support service. Try as I might I can't find it. I did a search, and went to msconfig and checked all programs listed there and I seem to have lost it from my pc. How can I get it back?
  8. In trying to do a restore I find I have several points to choose from and I've tried several. It goes through its cycle and ends up with the message 'cannot restore'. I don't have any viruses or malware that I can find, I keep it as clean as possible. At the moment I'm not having any major problem requiring a restore, but I have in the past and want it available if I need it in the future. I'd appreciate any help.
  9. I'm trying to copy Documents and Settings to an external HD, but it says can't copy NTuser.dat because it's in use and to close down whatever is using it. I closed down everything I could think of including the internet protection apps (turned of internet too) and that still comes up. Any idea how I can do this? I've had to do a System Recover and don't want that hassle again if I can help it.
