FMWATER Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 Greetings and Salutations-Recently, I bought an Intellistation Z Pro Type 6221. It came without any hard drive, as expected. I Installed a WD 12GB drive that is blank. The computer has a Matrox G450 video card. When I turn the computer on, it starts up, but nothing appears on the monitor. The monitor is good - It's my only one and I'm using it now. It could be an issue with the Matrox card, certainly. IBM reports a problem with the Matrox card not showing anything during POST due to a problem with certain versions of the card's BIOS. Their solution is to load the most current driver for the card (makes sense), but my question is: How do I load a driver, or check the system's BIOS or anything else when I can't see squat! I have another video card - an ASUS 9520 and I could certainly install it in place of the Matrox card, but then I'll run into the issue that the system doesn't have that card's driver.I'm going around and around with this mess. I'm hopeful that someone out there will be able to point me to a simple solution. Thanks for your time and attention. I look forward to hearing back from you all.Frank
puntoMX Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 Hello Frank, welcome to the forum. That Asus card uses a nVidia FX 5200 chip so drivers could be found easily. What OS are you using on that computer? 2000 or XP? by the way, the FX 5200 performs better than the G450 from Matrox and supports DirectX 9.0b by hardware while the G450 does 8.1.
