(Bug) DHCP dependency not removed when removing NetBT

Featured Replies

Hi, discovered this and I am able to reproduce it multiple times so I figured I would post here with a fix I found.

I recently nlited my copy of XP for my new netbook, and it ran great except for the internet would always get stuck trying to retrieve an internet address. I took a look at the services, and it turned out that DHCP was unable to start because a dependency could not start -- NetBT. The issue here is that I had removed it. It took me about a week to work out how to fix it, but I finally found out how to remove it (surely this should be automated alongside the removal of netbt?)

in HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DHCP, there is a key called 'DependOnService', for me it listed Tcpip, Afd and NetBT. After removing NetBT from the list and restarting everything worked hunky dory.

Surely dependencies should be removed when components are removed?

Thanks, and thanks for the great app :D
