quinton69 Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 (edited) total noob to this... trying to re-install xp on a flat alienware laptop, running into the F6 issue with no floppy drive available and got nlite to work fine etc, but i cannot figure out what basic files i need to get into the win xp sp 2 install iso?...the via website does not make it explicitly clear which drivers are the ones that are actually required, as opposed to all the other vraid tools etc..the bios recognises both drives, i can tab into the raid controller and see both of them there too... yet when windows setup runs using the nltie iso i have tried to put the right driver into it gets to the end and shows 4 drives, all unknown?.. i am assuming this is a quick fix for finger trouble on my part, but any advice gratefully accepted!..as an aside, i have been "forced" to use a brand new vista hp laptop by my work, and yet my 2 year old alienware running on XP kills it COMPLETELY in performance!.. PLEASE PLEASE help me get by blue beast back online!!!.. Edited June 26, 2009 by quinton69
Ponch Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 you probably need the "textmode" drivers. The one with OEMSETUP.txt in its folder.+are you sure it is not V8237 instead ?
quinton69 Posted June 26, 2009 Author Posted June 26, 2009 yep, sorry - finger trouble from frustration!!! ;-)will check it out, but that is the one i am loading in as far as i know...tried using a usb floppy drive, which then allows me to load the drivers, but after grinding away to the end, just as it says "starting windows" it the goes blue screen and flashes up a stop code.. i'll see if i can grab it and we can follow on from there...aaaaarrrrrrrgggghhhhhhhh!!!!!!!
johnhc Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 quinton69, you give almost no information to go on to help you. Some comments: you cannot run nLite under Vista to create an XP ISO if you are integrating an SP and it may not work even if not. With an nLited ISO, you cannot use F6 to load text mode drivers unless you turn off OEM Preinstall in Unattended section. Please see the Help next to the option (? in circle). If you want help with identifying drivers, please post a link to where you are DLing them. You can correct the thread title by editing your first post. Now my standard admonition - please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John. Enjoy, John.
