whatever420 Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 (edited) From a Google Search:http://www.computing.net/answers/windows-9...stub/91934.html (deals with replacing Oleaut32.dll)http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/win98/t1079588681 (deals with replacing dispex.dll)http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321915 (deals with same error but when installing programs... mentions Oleaut32.dll)http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers/35.html (mentions Oleaut32.dll)Google Cache: Techguy ForumsSounds like a incompatibility with either Oleaut32.dll or dispex.dll... eidenk Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Yeah sounds to me like a too high version of oleaut32. Nothing above version 2.40.4522.0 seems to be good.
Steven W Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Had this problem years ago, can't remember if it was with Win98 or Win95. I remember replacing dispex.dll with the version that came with IE's installation. Probably used regsvr.exe to unregester and re-register. May have replaced other files too. Did solve the problem, wish I could remember more.
Fredledingue Posted June 25, 2009 Author Posted June 25, 2009 Olé!... Up! Yeah sounds to me like a too high version of oleaut32. Nothing above version 2.40.4522.0 seems to be good.My version was 3.50.5016.0. I don't know what instaled this version. So I reinstalled oleup32.dll withOLEUP.EXE3-31-2008OLEUP + ITOLEUP:http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm#OLENew OLEAUT32.DLL 2.40.4520 from VB6 Q946235 (MS08-008):* Unofficial Windows 98/98 SP1/98 SE/ME OLE Automation Libraries (DLLs) 2.40.4530 + OLEAUT32.DLL 2.40.4520 Update:http://www.msfn.org/board/ipb_seo.php?url=...2Fms08-008.mspx- OLE Update [600 KB, English]:http://www.mdgx.com/files/OLEUP.EXE- OLE Update [604 KB, Italian]:http://www.mdgx.com/files/ITOLEUP.EXEProblems solved! How To: Fix "Error 35: Incompatible Version of the RPC Stub"This error occurs when trying to use the "Find" function with InternetExplorer. It is caused by a fault in v3.50.5041.0 OLEAUT32.DLL. Replace itwith an earlier version to fix the problem. Since it is a system file, youwill have to replace it using DOS.link
eidenk Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 You've written a system file checker in vbs if I am not mistaken. Why don't you run it on the windows/system dirs after you install something ? I am using that one for doing this systematically, it is very fast.http://www.xs4all.nl/~hneel/software/syslog.zipGlad you got it sorted anyway.
Fredledingue Posted June 26, 2009 Author Posted June 26, 2009 (edited) Hi, eidenk,Good that you remind me of that! But verifying system files doesn't help finding the reason for a crash. Ok if you notice it right after checking, not when the culprit file was changed 6 months ago.OLEAUT32.DLL has been mentioned once in my installed file checker reports. Here it is:Installed Files Checker 4.5Differences from 23/12/2008 22:49:41 to 24/12/2008 22:39:08Open previous reportsapres avoir retire PC Image EditorFolders scanned:Root of Drive CC:\Program Files C:\WINDOWS Folders excluded:C:\WINDOWS\Test2 C:\Program Files\Check System C:\WINDOWS\Cookies C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Identities\{...}\Microsoft\Outlook Express C:\WINDOWS\Recent C:\WINDOWS\Temp --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Summary:0 missing folders0 new folders1 missing files4 new files45 modified filesScan duration: 15,8 seconds. ____________________________________________________...blah...OLEAUT32.DLL 939,144 12-21-07-2:14p --> 569,344 08-29-02-12:11aThat means it was replaced by a much more recent and smaller version in Kb (I should think of adding file versions in the reports) after I uninstalled a software called "PC Image Editor". (likely after installing and uninstalling this softare.)This, on Christmass eve 2008. Nice present from Santa! Edited June 26, 2009 by Fredledingue
