First I mount the image and when I attempt to load the inf file it gives me an error stating that the specificed directory is not a WinPE image.According to MS I should be able to do this after words.....http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library...160(WS.10).aspxAny ideas? Tripredacus
I am going to wager a guess that your WIM is of an XP image?
Eagle710
No this is a WAIK v1.1 on a VISTA system.
Tripredacus
OK is your WIM of a Win PE or is it of a drive image? If it is a Vista image, you should add new drives in manually and modify your sysprep.xml files or unattend files inside the image to work with the new drivers. Eagle710
It is a WinPE img that have the drivers added. I have a different system and need to add the driver.
Tripredacus
OK, open up the PE Tools command prompt and run all your commands until you get this error. Then post everything in the command prompt window.

Tripredacus
Did you prep it after you initially made the PE? Also, did you happen to have upgraded or installed a new WAIK version since making that particular WIM?
Eagle710
No I did not prep it. Even if I did why would I get the error message when attempting to import a driver?
Tripredacus
When you first make your PE, you should prep it before unmounting it. Make another one as a test, prep it and unmount. THen remount and peimg to see if you get different results. I've never made a PE WIM without prepping it.
Eagle710
What are the downsides to not prepping the WIM? I have finished and don't want to get re-create it unless I absolutely need to. Still doesn't answer my question of why I cannot add a driver afterwards...prepping it should still allow me to add a driver.
Tripredacus
Recreating shouldn't take very long at all. You can mount your old WIM and the new WIM into different folders at the same time. Then just copy over the files. I have never created a Winpe.wim without prepping it, as I learned how to make them with IcemanND's guide.
