sooner1974 Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 xp pro, internet explorer 7ok For about the last month I have been battling the internet.I typically use google as search engine. When I do a search it brings up the results as normal. When I try to open a search from the results page, I get redirected to a random page. Usually an advertisement, wierd search engine or " internet explorer cannot open page." If I try to open the same search result a second or third time..it will work. This problem also occurs occasionally when I enter a valid address in address bar. I have also found that I cannot download some programs..Such as Kapersky anti virus...or any microsoft updates or patches directly from microsoft.com site. I do have a current version of Nod 32 and it cannot locate any problems. Please help with any suggestions.
DreamSkape Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Hi,The symptoms you mentioned are indicating that you have Conficker on your system. It is a worm that is not easily detectable by Anti Virus. As you said that Windows update is not working nor can you install updates from the MS site, this is the primary symptom of a computer infected by Confiker C.You will have to remove it using the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal tool. Details of the worm and the download of the MMSRT are available at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/890830/or http://www.microsoft.com/windows/enterpris...ogies/mdop.aspxIn case you are not able to run the MSRT, you can try the manual method to activate Win Update and then try again. The process is mentioned at:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/962007This should help. In case you have any more questions about the virus and its removal, you can send an email to me.--Regards,DreamSkapeSigned: Tuesday, April 14, 2009, 4:41:54 AM IST
